1 more honda motor died today

:'(

Yup, my d15b1 std motor finally bit the dust, after 30k miles with me, 3 trannies, and a ---- ton of "---- it" it died today. It started with a sound like valve chatter, and then the vibrations started shaking the shifter. About 10 miles later (on my way home) it started stalling when I pushed the clutch in. The noise was now loud as hell, heard over my shitty 2.5" exhaust and kept getting worse. It had almost no power by the time I pulled into the garage, and stalled for the last time as I was coasting in. I just said ---- it, and started taking it out. I've got the whole front end taken apart, oil/tranny/coolant drained, axles out, wiring harness unplugged, and then I got sick of it all and just went it. I'll take it out next weekend, and try to rebuild my spare motor in the meantime.

The new one will be a D15b2 (free) with y7 pistons, and a DX tranny... (Si was on the way out) soon to be turbo, but the project may have to wait a bit so I can get a clutch, flywheel, and all that ----. Damn, ----'s messed, it's the first motor I've actually killed, I suppose cruising @ 5.5k isn't great for it huh?

Oh well, tracks don't open until April. Pics coming soon...

I'm not saying I care about blowing this motor up, I was just gonna turbo it and blow it up in a few weeks anyway, but now, I have to learn how to tune on my new motor... oh well... I should be picking up an 88 DX hatch soon as a daily driver, so this car will be race only anyway...

Pulled off the Head today, looks like I threw/spun a rod bearing. The 2&3 were at different heights, and when I pressed down on the #2 (starting 1 at the timing belt) it was lose and pushed down to the same position as #3. Oh well. I also pulled the head of my spare D15b2 (head looked brand new, even with the valve cover off, because they said it was smoking... Yeah, the valves looked so fucked up, I'm pretty sure this block is fine, I can crank it by hand and it rolls smooth. I'm just gonna toss this y7 head on the D15b2 and swap that in... it'll be easier. I'm gonna find a D16 block later and rebuild it for turbo this spring, and turbo this summer, turbo in the snow doesn't really do much...

Not the greatest pic of the pistons but if you look closely, you can tell the right piston is lower that the left, I think the rod bearing broke into nothing...

Yeah, those are headlights, it looked really funny when the car was together, but for road racing, it allowed a lot of direct air flow to the filter, and it always gets a laugh out of people. I really don't care what my car looks like as long as its fun to drive...
