*UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
Well awhile back I posted a thread about how I got hit:

My boot was busted and the CV joint was bad so I went ahead and changed the axle on the front passenger side. Well got the car runinning and it pulls bad to the right. When you hit a bump or uneven spot in the road it will yank in that direction. I figured my alignment was bad due to being hit and the new axle. I took it to TopLine tires to get an alignment done. Well they call me back and say both my tie rods are bad. Then I tell them I put in the new axle etc etc. Then they call back and say it could be the LCA, or a bent frame, and the tire is pushed in some.. Basically they don't know and told me I would have to take it to a body shop. He said he had to order an aligment kit to fix it. Anyone have any idea what hes talking about and where to get it? He gave me a quote of $466 |
Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
Probably camber kits, etc. ~$75-ish?
Normally runs $150-200 for most run of the mill frame repairs. Not being there to see, I can't speculate. SOme serious ------- potholes to bend a frame... :-\ |
Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
If frames got bent from potholes and railroad tracks car companys would have major liability suits all the time. I run an automotive repair shop and there is no way a railroad track or pothole bent your frame unless you where jumping the railroad tracks. You need a second opinion.

Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
Maybe he meant sink holes ;D
He didn't say thats what bent it. He said he's seen stuff messed up worse from hitting pot holes and railroad tracks. Like the suspension getting messed up. |
Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
suspension yeah. Frame no way.

Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
Anyone have any ideas on what kind of camber kit to use? Don't want to get a crappy one that won't work right. Dropzone any good?

Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
My truck has a bent frame and the alignment places was able to fix it all using bushings with an ofset center. it was like 80 bucks for parts and mabey 100 for labor.

Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
so now your truck can drive sideways?!

Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
Well it didn't suprise me at all the frame was bent a little. I slid into a curb at about 30 MPH, then I went off into a gully that tire hitting first, and then the girl hit me in that tire.
I called him back to make sure he was talking about a camber kit. He said he called and checked on it and it was $86 per side. So $162. I picked up a set on eGay for $60 for both sides. So with installation and frame work I'm lookin at about $300 (not including the $60 for the camber kit). What would this have to do with the tire shop not being able to align my car though? |
Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
ok now on to the next question lol
Let him do the work, or put the kit on my self then let him fix the frame? |

Re: *UPDATE* Yep there's frame damage
So basically he has to have the camber kit to fix the frame right and he has to fix the fram to set the camber kit right :S
