**EDIT** Scored at the R/C shop!!(Same old post, modified with new picts)

I figured not making a new post about the same thing :P. Stoped at the R/C shop to see how much it was going to cost me to get the nitro running(if the guy ever ships it ::)). I came across this for $150 on consingment. Brand new. Ran maybe 3-4 times.

And now some super gay JDM shots!! :P

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...Scanned-21.jpg

It needs a faster motor. Please buy my ----!https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...4922#msg844922

Well I've been wanting a new hobby. I have never owned a nitro car before(only electric) and couldnt pass this up.Got it for $88 shipped(won it today). I know I need a radio, Body, servo and some batteries but how much work will it be it to keep this thing running? I have read quite a bit about them but I have gotten different point of views.

Re: Who owns a Nitro R/C?

i have one, dont drive it anymore cuz i cant afford to fix it,

i have a off road buggy by hpi, the biggest problem i had with mine was the spur gear, it was plastic and the teeth would shread off after 2 hours of play.
but i think the newer ones have metal spurgears and 2 speed transmision. also i broke the pull cord like 3 times.

Murdoc is the only person I know that's into those. I'd like to get one, but when I was driving Murdocs the throttle got stuck and I almost killed a bunch of people at an install.

Even if it runs great, you'll still want to throw a bunch of money into upgrades :6

gay, duratrax = ssac

traxxas rtr's ftw, they only break what you can fix and you dont need to wait 5 weeks to get a new part. plus stores stock traxxas parts....

unlike my 70mph rc10l pan car, stock motor some jdm motor can, does ------ 70. can't WOT it until you're going about 40, or else its mad wheelspin and a donut into something hard like a curb or brick wall

Indeed, in the 5 min I ran my truck today I broke 2 spur gears and 2 shock mounts :S I am thinking of trading both of them to a friend for a older tmaxx

Re: Who owns a Nitro R/C?

I have a duratrax Axis, the thing is a blast and very stout. The only problem it has is the high torque steering servo keeps stripping gears, its not a big deal a new gearset is like $3 bux and takes 5 mins to replace, cant justify paying $35 for the metal ones. I lost servo power on it once and hit a brick wall at 45+, ended up costing me like $60 for a new wheel and front gearbox.

www.RCtech.net

Is probably the place, may not be the exact http address but it is some variation of RCtech.net
Lots of pros post up there, and you can find real up to date racing coverage from the pits.

I've never raced gas, but I always end up with a noob gas racer pitted next to me, and halfway through the race day, I'm trying to teach them about how to keep the engine from flaming out, and running pit crew for them

Upkeep depends on what you want to do... If you are just bashing, then just a few rebuilds a year, if you race....
Rebuild once a week, Tires tires and more tires you'll go through 100's of dollars in tires to stay competitive (Novice classes aren't nearly as brutal, those you are winning if you can make it around the track, so dont be intimidated). Those 15 min mains really can eat the tires up
I am on a racing hiatus for a while as I was spending almost as much racing 1/10th scale as I was building my full size car :S

But I love it, closest I will ever get to road racing (and off road for that mater). Dont buy anything until you get to a track and you find out what everyone else is running, just buy a set of decent tires and get ready to run novice class. Keep it off the boards and you will do well, and sandbag as much as possible in novice class

I've been messing with these things since I was a kid, 10+ years. I don't remember the HPI colt though.

Re: Who owns a Nitro R/C?

you're gonna need a glow plug igniter and you should have a cylinder temp gauge to use as an AFR. i can't remember the right temps but it will say when you get the gauge. i'd also ditch the pull start and get a starter box or motor. i've seen those pull starts break a million times.

Re: Who owns a Nitro R/C?

RS4 2 is a pretty good car, but an RS4 3 is really where it's at. I believe that's when they changed to shaft drive - which is a lot more parking lot friendly. I'm assuming this will mostly be run in parking lots, where a shaft drive system will really shine...but you should be able to get by with a belt drive as long as it's not full of rocks and small pebbles.

If you need any parts that are worth shipping let me know, I believe I have a few spare radios or atleast transmitters and maybe a beat up reciever laying around that I'll cut you one hell of a deal on if you're interested.

yea they are fun.... but i have mine broken more than it is runnign. always breaking a ball joint, or cracking a pice of the frame...... but when it is up and running it is a balst.. some home made dirt jumps are the best

Re: Who owns a Nitro R/C?

i used to have one of those and it was pretty fun. i ended up getting rid of it because i never had time to run it anywere besides up and down my street and if i went wide open with it it would loose traction and spin around out of no where.

have an off road one, blew all 4 struts, engine wont start and its a waste of money, I rather put the 400+ that it would cost to repair in to a real motorsport.

the colt is a Japaneese RC car. guy here has one, pretty bad ass. they set them up for drifting. One of the RC stores here has a drift course set up in the back and the 'rc drift king' has the exact same car set up pretty stock.

if you want a faster motor, stick a p2k armature in a mod motor can. it works tits, running stampede tires and pretty much any 7.2v battery pack, with about 25% faster than stock gearing in my rustler, will lift the fronts on launch and hold em until about 20-25 and keep winding out to around 35mph. getting bearings for a p2k will also make a big difference

doesn't the mod motor can have bearings already?......plus he can find someone with a lathe and turn the armature down.plus that motor setup will NEVER be legal to race...back yard bashing your good to go.....running a 13 triple in my tamiya 414.....4 wheel drive touring cars for the win

for 1 good servo....$65 to $175
body.....30 bucks plus paint
recever and crystals if your transmitter doesn't have em $100........get a fm transmitter, ---- am

They sell 1/10 scale bodies for it down at the hobby shop here. -and thats all they sell. So I would assume that they have the same bodies you can get there would work. -Actually they sell some US bodies there as well.
