Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
you sir. probebly have the most expensive pistions on this site.
|
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
looks preaty sweet
Beau |
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
Wiseco ain't that expensive
|
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
how did u get that block so damn clean?
did they steam bathe it at the machine shop then did you wire brush it? normally when I get ---- back from the machine shop (aluminum parts) it looks kinda dirty, like it was washed but not rinsed off.. then again I don't care that much and just throw the parts together - ---- it, going to get dirty under the hood anyways. |
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
yayo: the valve cover is painted blue and polished around it.
Semons: the Wiseco's were about $430 from www.raceeng.com i wanted them so i can boost in the very high teens. Quadnie: the shop shot peened the block and then put it in the heat tank, then they painted it for me. bored .5 mm over, micropolished crank, decked block, shotpeened rods and block, hottank. rods, crank, pistons, harmonic balancer, flywheel, and clutch all dynamicly balanced. price: $300. all in all, i know this is "HMT", and the goal is to come off w/ a cheap, fast car. but i wanted to do it right. the total nut for the turbo kit, eng mgt, and built D16 that will push around 17psi ran me about $3000. :-X mike |
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
damn it's painted... huh.
I personally would have gone for that wire brushed aluminum look. I was at the mall yesterday and inside the oakley store talking about the design structures of the store to the cute lil sales girl and then she was saying "oh, how do we get these scratches out of the displays" I just explained that the display cases are made of BRUSHED ALUMINUM so brush them out. I really don't think she could understand me that well.. oh well. |
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
we paid 1400 for the ones in the kawasaki? without rods. but maybe thats because they were made to custom spec? i dont know i didint order them.
they were domed 14.6:1 compression |

Nice setup dude, looks real nice.. Tell us how she runs after a while! |
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
Looks damn good. I think the most important part of the kit is the detailed planning that you seem to have put into it. Good job.
|
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
Looks good. Keep us posted with some times & #'s.

Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
Wow that is a badass setup. What part of Michigan are you from? And I was also wondering what you have to do to use the Ls rods in that motor? Good luck breakin it in.
|
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
i'm in the 810. to use the ls rods, all you have to do is bush the wristpin holes w/ silicone bronze, and grind down the crank end of the rod to the size of a d-series rod. not that hard.
i am only hitting 9 psi now, but it seems fast as hell.... i gotta get some cash so i can hit the F'n Dyno and fine tune |
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
with that setup you could probably run 10psi daily and 20psi race if you want to with proper fuel management

Nice setup. I find it kinda strange when people buy forged pistons, but use factory rods, even if they are LS rods. It seems like you built a stout motor, but it's weak point is still the rods. :-\ __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

On the rods though I gotta say the LS's will do the trick, especially for the price of them :D Plus I don't think he's gonna do 28psi on that motor, or are you? |
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
28 no, 17 - 19 yes.
the 14b starts to lose it's efficiency @ about 16psi. but i can always upgrade to a t3/t4, but when i have the $$$$ to do that i'll upgrade to a dart block w/ new internals(by that time it will be time to rebuild anyway). this is my first turbo set-up. i just wanted to do it right (basically) the first time, on somewhat of a budget. being a toolmaker, I did the rods myself, and just wanted to see if i could do it, and see if bushed rods would last. as of right now the CRX is sitting due to a lack of $$$ (plates, insurance, windshield, and hood) thanks for all of your comments, positive and negative feedback is appreciated. for all of those that wonder if just a down pipe w/ no cat or exhaust sounds good, i will not be putting any type of exhaust on this beast. i'd rather pay the ticket. |
Re:Another boosted CRX in the family.
*** UPDATE ***
well, i ended putting back on the exhaust, and actually gained 2 1/2 psi off the bat. go figure... i guess that there wasn't enough velosity to keep the turbo spooled. low end really picked up also, and it did away w/ the UPS truck sound. hit the track sept 25th and ran a best of 14.6 and a best mph of 100 mph on drag radials. traction sucked ass untill i was mid way thru 3rd gear. (if i punch it on street tires, i lose traction @ 4000rpm in 3rd about 70 mph) but that day i was only boosting about 9-10 psi, on a DX tranny. day ended early when i broke 2 lug studs on the launch :-\ since then, i have turned up the boost to 15psi and all seems well... even tho i haven't made it to the dyno to get tuned yet. although , i do have an overheating problem that has crept up when i run it real hard. i have to get a pusher fan. i painted it flat black about a month ago w/ 13 cans of $.98 spray paint. believe it or not, it looks real good! we did an awsome job preping it. but, i will end up going back to some type of color. the flat black it just to make the body work that is about to happen. currently i am looking for a "GOOD" Si tranny (89-91) so if anyone knows of any around Michigan, let me know. ok.... i'm tired! mike |
