$3500 Edelbrock turbo kit
 

I just read the article in Sport Compact Car about the new Edelbrock Performer X turbo kit that cost $3500. First of all the article said it was great. Then they start talking about how the instructions where confusing and they wound up putting the oil return in the wrong spot on the oil pan. The oil return line doesn't fit right and the wiring diagram is wrong so you can't wire the extra injector control unit. After they finally got it instaled (three days later) they take it on its first test drive and blow a rod threw the block. The new turbo has a bad waste gate actuator and the thing hits twenty PSI on its first pass.

I have to ask myself, if this is what they send to a major magazine for a test article what can the average guy on the street expect to get? This just proves what we all know already, build your own system the HMT way and do it right for less money. I dont know how many cars I have turboed with junk yard turbos and used injectors and I have never blown one up on the first run.
OK there was that one Saturn but it was a 200,000 mile used engine with no fuel management and it still lasted three runs so I don,t think that should count.

sounds like they were using used parts to me. or someone doesnt know how to test this stuff right.

Whoa.. I need to read that article! I thought that kit looked pretty impressive for a D-series, came with all the trick stuff, but ofcourse since JG/Edlebrock makes it, its going to be bank and the fact that SCC installed it, and blew it up... Well that doesnt suprise me I guess, but hey, I blew mine up on my first try ;)

Wow, I didn't know that SCC were that ------- stupid. At what point did they realize that they were running 10psi more than they were supposed to? Usually on the first run you have your eye on the boost gauge but maybe they thought it was supposed to run 20psi. Its a sad day when backyard builders are smarter than the "professionals"

there is a local auto parts store (not mine) that sells those kits....$3300 IN STOCK. they look pretty nice...

a canadian company installed that on a EG and it worked PERFECT. SCC screwed somthing up.

scc are ------- idiots if they cant put together the edelbrock kit, most of it comes pre assembled, allll you have to do is bolt it onto the car. ------- rediculous.

i read that article last night. Sounds like it was a pre-production kit they had. Everything they installed they said "it will be included in the kit".

The edelbrock kit can lick my nutsack. You could do so much more with that much money. I does look nice and all, but I would rather have lots of horsepower and good fuel management instead of having a kit that just looks good.

kits aren't for everyone.

i saw some stupid women with a new v6 gt eclipse with one HUGE turbo on it. she was gettin her oil changed at wal-mart. obviously build/install the kit herself :P

she is prob dead by now, women + fast car = crash

its not only running off one bank of cylinders numbnuts
there is a crossover exhaust pipe from the other bank. so both banks of cylinders are going through one huge turbo

My one friend has a HMT V6 single turbo. Its on a Taurus SHO and it runs consistent 12.80

Show me a 12 second timeslip, and then come in running your mouth. I have 2 cars that'll lay that down, and, gasp, one is a carburated V8. If I could afford it, it would be turbo too.

So any way I know a guy who has the edelbrock kit. It is on of the nicer kits out there. I don't know if I would choose a piggy back though. For that kind of money I would rather go with a nice HMT and hondata or zdyne.

i went to the junkyard and got a IHI mx-6 turbo and i also picked up a 96-00 ex 4-2-1 stock header and took the top half and busted out the cutting wheel and the mig welder, so i went to town for about 2 months and wah alllaaa blinb blinb a turbocharged 1.5 with all jdm SI componets. umm not bad yuou say.. it had over 180hp and beats b16a's and i smoked a integra gsr "and yes the kid was tryin" not bad for a 1.5 with some major balls"
