wow we need a bit more of a description than that. |
Re: zc wont stay fired
yah i hold it forward so that the starter stays running and the car will run but a soon as i let it go in the ignition on position it shuts off

Re: zc wont stay fired
ok that helps thanks alot now i know whats wrong with the car

Re: zc wont stay fired
bad ignition switch at the bottom of the column.
88-91 I assume? |
Re: zc wont stay fired
thats what i was thinking too but i also was wondering if the switch was bad why it would work at all.... yah its a 1990
|
Re: zc wont stay fired
worn/dirty contacts.
A failure point like a main relay, getting to be quite common on the 88-91's |
Re: zc wont stay fired
i havent hooked up all my grounds yet could that play a big part of it not wanting to run?
|
Re: zc wont stay fired
the only one that really super matters is the one that grounds to the thermostat housing because that is the ground for ecu power
|
Re: zc wont stay fired
You need to have the ecu grounded somewhere. The closest place to do this with the ecu ground in the harness is the thermostat. Without that it will turn and turn and not prime the fuel pump.
|
Re: zc wont stay fired
yah i got the the thermostat ground on i didnt run the ground for the ecu yet ill try that too just incase too ...will my ecu have a stored code on my ecu? and if it does how do i read what number code it is?
|
Re: zc wont stay fired
The ecu gound is the thermostat ground. It's a black spade tongue. Just loosen a bolt on the thermostat housing and tighten it back down with that bitch under the bolt. Without that spade tongue grounded your fuel pump won't prime. I don't know about spark, but you're getting no fuel I bet. I forgot to ground it too when I put my motor in and it did the same ---- for days until I saw it.

Re: zc wont stay fired
yah i put that on and i was getting fuel its actual running when the car is in the starting position but as soon i leaveit to run on its own in the on position it will run for a sec thenshut off im wondering if the main relay or the ignition switch is bad or even if the ecu needs a better ground
|
Re: zc wont stay fired
If it's getting fuel you're sure I would say it's the ignition switch or relay. I started a base p28 240cc map with 450cc no problem, it just idled like ----. Check your relay for continuity... the Haynes manual has the test in there. Then I would check the ignition switch for continuity and voltage.

Re: zc wont stay fired
check your grounds
