would something like this work?
i bought a bare tdo4b dsm turbo from a friend for $30 and im wanting to bolt it to a h22, would the tdo4b work for this big of a moter or would it just be to small?
too small and what do you mean by bare turbo
i got just the turbo, no flanges or lines, but i did get the stock dsm intercooler

please excuse me i was looking at it again thinking about what i could do with it and relised the numbers on it was "tdo5h" again sorry for the mistake
I say slap that bad boy on there and then auto-x the car. should have a pretty good power band for auto-xing

that would spool pretty good, it'd probably be a good driver
Spooling would be done by like 2500 or so. lol.. So quick! I say throw it on the h22 if in good condition.
the moter is a jdm import with 32,000 on the card that came with it. i was thinking about only pushing 10-12lbs so that way i can retain the stock internals for awaile, couse money is going to be tight for a while couse all of this is going in a '91 rex
Run it!
If you out grow it you can easily swap in a 16G, 18G, or a sleeper 20G with a big thugging TDO6H turbine wheel and never have to change the way the turbo bolts on! |
i would just get a decent t3 and sell that tdo5 it will spool at 1200 and run out of breath by 5,000 so you will no longer have any gas milage and no top end not to mention a small turbo like that will kill your engine on intake temps and become a restriction at 5,000 just get a decent t3
if the 14b and 16g turbos both bolt up the same then i think ill just use the 14b for mock up untill i get a little closer the the end of the project and then grab a 16g from the junk yard
will that turbo even give you 12psi at redline? your h22 head flows way better than a 4g63. I think you might have a very fast spooling car that kinda chokes up on the top end

I have heard of people finding them in the yards, but they would only be on a modded DSM.
It might be easier for you to use a garret style turbo in the long run. The 14b on the 2.0 DSM is a decent turbo, but starts putting out hot air when you get into the 20psi range. On a 2.2 with what are probably better flowing components (I think the stock Honda 2.2 makes more hp NA than the DSM 2.0 does with a turbo) you could just have a hair dryer. The 16g will be better, but you can get some better, cheaper options with the T3 footprint. |

MHI - 49178-05200 MHI - 49178-01420 MHI - 49178-01470 It's hard to find a good used 16G on craig's list or ebay, let alone a run of the mill junk yard. |
i have not personally set eyes on them, but i do have to run out there to grab my tegy knuckles later on next week, what part numbers are for what?
ok well i think ive figured out what im going to do. im going down to the junk yard and picking up another 14b, and im going to run twins on the the h22 just couse that would look sick as f*ck
haha good luck with that one. i cant wait to see this. why not just run 3 or 4 hell one turbo per cyl. have only seen one twin turbo setup on a 4cyl that was not an all out race car and guess what its on this site someplace archived. how do you expect to run your charge pipes and downpipe(s)? sell the 14b and find a t3 in the junkyard
i was thinking about using a log style manni, and have a y pipe right on the flange, stacking the turbos one down low and the other right above it, using dual pipes coming out right behind the front wheels. but this would mean i would have to use a half size racing radator, as far as the charge pipes i was thinking about running dual pipes up to the intercooler where it would y together, and just a single from the intercooler to the i/m,
if you can dream mit you can build it hell thats what this site is about go for it and dont forget the pics
pics for sure, but its going to be a bit couse im still getting parts together
why not just one big turbo i am sure my one gt40r will make just as many panties drop as 2 14b turbos will
couse theres already a few h22 crx and yes they do turn heads but i want to snap necks
Well, if you haven't seen them, then I doubt they are 16g's, which is good if you are planning on using two of them.
The most commonly found DSM turbos in the junkyard are the first gen's, with the 13g off the automatic and the 14b off the manual transmission cars. I've been into DSMs for two years now and I've only heard of one person finding a 16g in the junkyard and that was a modded car on the east coast. Two small turbos on a 4 cylinder works out well. This guy has some good info Twin Turbo Shadow page |
well a gt40r does snap necks in 4th with a sticky track its like a rocket

MHI - 49178-05200 - Mitsubishi Small 16G
MHI - 49178-01420 - Mitsubishi Big 16G MHI - 49178-01470 - Mitsubishi Evo III 16G I'm with one of the other posters... Probably not many of these in junk yards, but if you do find some, you can make yourself some money. |
