Will I break my ringlands?
 

Here's my dilemma. As some of you probably know I just bought a cylinder head that is milled .020 and the combustion chambers are welded (they appear to be P72 / GSR chambers) all to increase the compression. I've figured, with the help of a compression calculator, that the compression will be anywhere between 10.6:1 - 11.1:1.

The bottom end of the motor I'm wanting to put this head on is just a stock B16 bottom end. What I'm wanting to know is if I could turbocharge this motor with the head that has been milled and welded on it. Would it be possible to keep it from knocking with 93 octane and a conservative tune? Would I break my ringlands anyway? If it is possible to boost it how much boost should I run, I was thinking less than 10, maybe 5-6 lbs on a pretty small turbo like a 42/48 or a 48/60.

I could compensate for the amount the head has been milled by using a thicker HG, but thats more money out of my pocket that I don't really have. The compression calculator says that I would end up with about a 10.6:1 CR with just a GSR head on my motor, would that be safe to boost on?

----, that might do some damage, especialy with some b16 pistons, id go with a thicker head gasket even thow it will cost u money and some ls pistons to lower the cp to a safe level for boost. and make sure u tune it good. it will make up for things that could happen donw the road, hey, i need some ls pistons too lol, 11-6-1 cp on my ls/vtec - not very safe for boost. just go to around 9-1-1 to 10-1-1 or somwhere around there and u should be fine. of course hotrex is running i think 8-11psi on his gsr with 10-8-1 i think. but be safe toon good.

how are you guessing at c/r numbers?...do you know the new volume of the combustion chambers?

I'm assuming they're comparable to GSR combustion chambers in volume since thats what they look like. That's also why I said it's probably anywhere between 10.6:1 and 11.1:1. Stock GSR CR is higher than a B16 isn't it?

If I were to buy LS pistons would I use them on my B16 rods? According to this compression calculator if I used a GSR head, LS pistons, and an OEM headgasket I'd be at 8.7:1 compression ratio. But since my head is milled you have to take that into consideration too, it's milled .020 which is good for like 2 points of compression right? So I'd end up with approxomately 9.0:1 which would be good enough for me, but I don't want to go under 9.

just get a good dyno tune. You should be safe as long as you stay within a power limit.
