Default Will this hurt a tial wastegate?

Hey guys, I need to be able to drive my car to get to work this week and I won't have these 90 degree pipe bends coming in the mail for about a week, so that I can setup my wastegate return pipe into my downpipe. I have a full exhaust and the downpipe is on the turbo and completed. The thing is is that when I have been test driving the car....the fumes im getting from under hood are almost unbearable. I don't think an exhaust leak would make me as light headed as this....so its got to be the fact my wastegate is venting to atmosphere under the hood. I thought i would be able to get away with it if i didn't floor it around down and make it open, but i guess even the slightest bit of boost will start to creak it open eh?

So my question is, I put a block off plate on the exit port of the wastegate untill my pipes arrive and I can go get my return pipe done for it so that I can drive the car very gently without boosting and prevent from getting fumigated. Will this cause the wastegate to fill and get trapped with gases and damage a seal or the spring or anything?

The reason why I haven't just taken the wg itself off completely is that due to bolt location it was a bitch to get on, and will be even more of one to get off.

Thanks for any replies.

yeah, you can do that, just be careful not to overboost, have you tried putting your vent on recirc in the car? i don't have a dumptube for my tial either and the fumes are only bad when i have the vent blowing fresh air in the car. also, you lose power when you route your dump tube back in to your exhaust, you're better off running a seperate tube out the side of your bumper or along side of the exhaust, but not merging in to it.

I thought about running a seperate pipe I may end up doing that, but then I might get pissed at myself come emission time. Ok, but so no adverse affects to the wg by blocking it off on the exit port right? Im not gonna boost at all when driving it like this just so theres no chance of overboost.

The better idea would be to disconnect the wastegate boost feed line so the valve never lifts off the seat (provided there isn't enough pressure to force the valve open). I wouldn't block off the dump tube with the feed line still there, all that exhaust energy, heat and pressure will be attacking the insides of the wastegate.

I figured I would leave it attached so that if any exhaust gas were to work its way under the seal, whenever I gave it a little gas it would open up and let gas back out.....ahh ---- this ----.....im just gonna try not to drive the car as much as possible and just leave the wg open and venting to atmosphere...i don't want to monkey around.

BTW, jcwhitney and mcmaster are the only places I know of that sells 90 degree pipes in 1 1/2 diameter, or else I wouldn't be waiting to get them delivered. Pisses me off....I also don't know what we would do without the internet.

If anyone else used an ssautocrap manifold and has their turbine on the passenger side with compressor on driver, show us pictures of how you made your wg return pipe, I'll post pics of mine when its done.

i dont have the ssautocrap but my wastegate is on the driver side and let me tell you its a pain in the *** especially if you are trying to keep A/C. My wastegate dumptube runs RIGHT UNDER the two A/C lines literally pushing them up. Not the most ideal situation since it is just heating them up... I dont know. Still have to fix a lot of things on this car...
