Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a jam here, my car is 99% complete and I'm trying to boost right now but it's not going very well. Everything's hooked up but the boost gauge isn't showing any boost. My vafc is showing around -500mm/hg and it doesn't go very far when i rev up to 6000rpm. Now my question is... does the car have to be moving to build boost or should i just be able to boost by just still-reving? The bov is pushing out massive amounts of air when i let off the tb too, just fyi.

Yes, the car needs to be under load to boost.

yea you need load to see boost, I thought the same thing when I first turboed my car, it would start off - vac, by revving it, it would go to 0. I wouldn't go ripping threw gears at first, just to make sure you don't over boost.

lol, don't worry sucka! soon enough, soon enough. I have a few more things to do before she's street ready. plus a lot of cops like to hang out on my street and with no downpipe, my car's pretty loud. if i work hard tonight i should be able to take her out tomorrow and i'll get it on vid, maybe i'll get the cops chasing me on the video too lol.

why exactly is it that it needs to be under load?

It's a weird concept because I've seen DSM's / WRX's boost at redlights... like 10-15 lbs with no load...

Is this because of the combustion chambers or something, because I really don't know?

your car can build boost if its not under load. A small turbo will do this.
