why is my car dying!!!

ok here is the set-up
89 honda crx
dohc zc swap
ihi thunderbird turbo
stock map
450cc inj.
255lph fuel pump (from xenocron)
i have a map from chris's bin dir.

i have replaced the fuel filter (just did today) and the injectors are working great but what my problem is when i hit boost whether 1psi or 6psi(what its set to) and i come to a stop the car will die,ill let it set for a minute or two it will start right back up. i have no codes even after it dies and starts back up. i dont know what it could be the bin i have is set-up for 440cc inj. but i have 450cc which a couple people have said should make no difference and its also set-up for a 2bar map which i have a stock map sensor maybe that could be the problem but im not sure. please help me in the right direction of what could be wrong.

You can't run a 2 bar map on a stock map sensor. That is your issue. Reburn with the stock map sensor option.

Re: why is my car dying!!!

mabe you are getting a 'gap' in your fuel supply. I would try driving around with a fuel pressure guage hooked up and stuck up onto the windshield. That way you can see if you are loosing enouph fuel pressure to kill the car.

I would also check around by sprying carb cleaner to see if you have any vacuum leaks. If your idle is abnormally high or if you have a wondering idle, this may be your problem...(you can also do this by blowing cigarette smoke under the hood around various vacuum lines, you can see it get pulled into the leak if there is one...)

no vacuum leaks that was one of the first things i checked. i have an adjustable fpr coming and i need to get another fuel press. gauge to check it. but i have checked just about everything else that i can think of. also the car will idle all day without a hiccup it only does it when i hit boost and then come to a stop and try to just take off normally.

Hmmmm...the only other thing that I can think of is to try a different chip and see if you just happened to get 2 with wierd problems....

Whats your A/F's look like at idle and in boost?

sikcrx89 01-07-2007 08:44 AM

Re: why is my car dying!!!

they are about 15-15.7 at idle and anywhere between 12-13 in boost

Re: why is my car dying!!!

well the map i just burnt was for a z6 and is pig rich at idle but it only died on me once where the other 2 maps i had for zc's die every time i hit any boost

You say your getting no cel at all? are you sure you put that jumper in? I wouldnt have put a new map sensor in until you had the problems you already have figured out but w/e. Try starting over and making your own basemep from scratch so you know that it isnt the problem.

well i just sold my burner and i dont know the TE software well enough to make my own basemap. im going to buy a burn1 probably this weekend from chris so maybe when i get i wiil see what i can do as far as making my own but do you have any idea what could be causing this?

Burner works great btw...blasted a bin off BRE earlier last night and works flawlessly. Think it might have something to do with the code? NG48/55 as compared to say NG60?

Re: why is my car dying!!!

well the one map i have is the ng48 and the one i have now is ng60 and the other i tried im not sure which one it was but all produced the same outcome die after any boost. the map i have now seems to be a little better it only died once and i saved it from duing the second time which i have not been able to do with my other maps.

Re: why is my car dying!!!

Is it happening only when you come to stop after boosting? Or does it hiccup into boost? Could be too rich in boost and starting to foul the plugs, might also be too rich at idle. Might also have both compounding themselves together...so many variables :-\

exactly it dies after i have hit boost come to a stop and then try to take off from the stop is when it dies. so you think fouling plugs? i have the ngk-bkre7-11 gapped to .28 i thought origianally the gap was too big and that was my problem(they were stock gap) so i closed them up to .28 should i maybe run .29-.30 or is what i have suffeciant enough?

Re: why is my car dying!!!

The gap should be ok, I ran .025 on my plugs in my b16 with no issues at 15psi. If anything a larger gap will start to break up at higher boost levels, not when you take off from an idle. It does sound like a rich map...have you wideband tested it yet? Maybe injector latency too at idle.

idend with the new map i just made before i sent you the burner is pig rich at idle like 10.2-10.6 but seems fine of idle. other maps are 15.0-15.6 at idle but all seem fine while normal driving they are like 11.0-12.6 which is decent i have checked to make sure the injectors are firing by removing clips at idle and no problem there.
