Who's running only downpipe?

I just installed a downpipe in my turbo, and I got to say that it sounds like ----. I runned without a downpipe for like 2 days, and it didnt sound so bad; now its kinda loud. I want to run just downpipe and no muffler, is anybody doing the same setup,no downpipe? And where does your downpipe end?

I took a ride in Jason Parker's hatch...the creator of turboEDIT.

his open downpipe flange (no downpipe, just a turndown off the turbine housing) was quieter than my NA car with a 2.5" exhaust, cat, resonator, and tip

Re:Who's running only downpipe?

I did run my car a few days with just a downpipe, and it wasn't nearly as loud as many N/A cars with open exhaust. But it was pretty loud when boost kicked in and the wastegate opened, also there's a lot of noise inside the car if your exhaust exits under the middle of the car rather than going out the back. In either case you really want to get the exhaust away from the engine and air intake. A good place to exit on the drag hondas seems to be in front of either front tire.

Yeah mine was loud as well...but I'll do it again, but I think i might just make my exhaust all the way to the back and leave it without a muffler...only got a stock muffler now...

open dp sounds cool as ---- (it isnt really loud unless your at full throttle and the wastegate opens up) , plus im too lazy to make a full exhaust, and too poor to buy a nice one

Re:Who's running only downpipe?

loud as ---- and sounds like a WRX. The turbo spooling makes me cream in my pants. Alows for some gains in HP and sounds cool too.

Re:Who's running only downpipe?

i'm running just downpipe right now and i love it!! its a bit loud but the spool of the turbo makes it worth it! open exhaust housing is the best though.....mine sounded like a ------- semi truck spooling everywhere ZZZZzzzzzZZZZZZ it was great!!! now with the d.p its louder but you can still hear the ZZZZzzzZZZ spooling of the turbo and i love it!!! i'm gonna stick a 3" all the way back with no cat, its should still sound good.. i love turbo's!

Re:Who's running only downpipe?

running open exhaust housing is a bad idea. It will cause your turbo to over spool and ruin the bearings. Not a good idea.

Overspool and ruin bearings? With a good boost controller you can control spikes and it will not ruin your bearings

My open downpipes threw off my o2 readings, it wasn't reading any voltage at WOT. once I put an exhaust on it ran much better

my friend at work ran his dp from the turbo under the engine with a turn down and it left a black spot from him warming it up everyday
