Where to find BOV general Info?

I was just wondering if there was any place that gave a thourgh explanation of the BOV. They seem to be mentioned a lot but I am still a little confused about them. What exactaly do they do? How do you know when they are set correctley? (what do they need to be set to?) I am pretty much entirely clueless as to how they work. Also when I start piecing my set up togeather is a DSM one fine or should i fork out the bills for a more expensive aftermarket one.

Ok.
A blow of valve goes between the compresser(outlet) and the throttle body usually on the charge pipe right before the throttle body.

How it works.
Its works off of a vacume lime most often tapped of the fuel pressure regulator(but anny vacume source of the manifold will work). The valve(in the bov) is open at vacume becous there is no boost present(the valve is vacume activated). At boost(or at open throttle) when there is no vacume present it will close.

When you shift/get off the throttle that vacume in the manifold(or as soon as the throttle plate closes) will open the valve releasing the compressed air in the pipes and making that cool swoosh sound we all crave.

How much boost will they hold?
It depends on the bov. Some are adjustable and will hold up to 35psi and some are set to hold about 12-14psi.The adjustable ones have a srew/bolt on top that loosens or tightens the spring inside that hold the valve closed under boost. The only adjustable stock bov that I know of are off 80s models Volvos.

Hope that helps ;D...............

.....but then what the hell do I know :P

Excelent! That was exactaly what I wanted. Actually one more thing, If I am running 8psi, does the BOV need to be set at 8psi or does it not matter since the wastegate is controlling the boost.

Wastegate is controlling the boost. Depending on what BOV you get you may be able to adjust the opening pressure of the blowoff valve. You don't want it to be too loose or it will leak, but on the other hand you don't want it to be to tight either.

What setup is this for? A DSM blowoff valve is fine actually. Alot of us HMT'ers use them in our setups. Cheap and reliable. What eslse could you ask for? :)

The plan is a t25 running 8psi on a stock zc
