what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo

Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
Normally there is a fitting there where you connect a hose that goes from the compressor housing to the wastegate. That is what actuates the wastegate.
I pluged the one on my turbo and ran the wastegate off the IM......n00b! ;) |

Another sensor opening?
|
Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
thats exactly what i was thinking, i was wondering if thats what its for. -a boost gauge.
|
Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
That's the exact same type of turbo that I have. If that is what it is for, that's cool.
|
Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
it it hollow? If not, maybe its for a heat shield

I'd just plug it and call it a day :P

Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
yeah who cares it goes into the compressor side, so plug it off good. If i were you id plug both of them off and use your wastegate signal off your intake manifold
|
Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
is it better to use a vac line from the intake manifold for the wastegate? is it because it will give you the pressure in the manifold as opposed to the charge pipes?

there's 1 on my T3 too but its not drilled all the way through http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg

Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
A lucky pebble that is small enough to get through that screen is still going to ---- up your turbo, but you probably knew that.
|
Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
well don't listen to me...but it looks like some kind of a mounting thingy mabobber...like ...an alternator...mounts in a few diff spots,
or maybe a little clip thingy goes there..to route some line or wiring .... but don't ask me...i don't know any thing.. Nick |

He was thinking ahead for when that season comes where there's tennis balls all over the streets. lol.
Plug it. It's not a good spot for a boost gauge, tard. You'd read 10psi of boost off that, and get 7 to the car. :P |
Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
where did you get the turbo from ? ask them what they used the hole for but i would say boost gage

Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
stick a bolt in that ----, no matter what it was used for on the stock car, it's not important to you, and yeah, i would run the wg signal to the manifold and plug dat chit up too, prolly won't be a big pressure drop with 2" charge piping and a side mount, but i would rather regulate boost by what my map is actually seeing, not what the turbo is seeing.

Re:what is this for? -threaded hole in turbo
seen many when pulling from the junkyard. a small bracket connects there that holds one of the hard lines. usually the oil inlet.
the problem is the bolt that is there is usually long and w/o the bracket, it goes deep in the housing. just plug it with a short bolt. |
