What size pipe diameter to use?

Hi. I'm new to the board. I tried searching but didnt find too much. I'm making a custom turbo setup for my cavalier and I'm curious about what diamtere charge pipe I should use. I was looking at BOV's on ebay and alot of them are already welded to 2" pipe which leads me to believe alot of turbo setups are using 2" pipe. My compressor also has a 2" ID outlet. I'm going to get a Johnny Racecar intercooler but that has 2.5" connections.

Anyway. I'm wondering what effect charge-pipe size has on performance. I'm only going to be running low boost (5-7psi) and probably be driving around in vac most of the time.

Thanks for any help.

if your intercooler has 2.5" inlets and outlets, use 2.5. Bottlenecks suck ass.

Welcome to the forum!

Since you are running somewhat low boost, 2 would be great for you.. any way to find a 2 inch FMIC? Always possible to use stepdowns with the 2.5

IMO too big of a pipe will not hold the pressure that the smaller pipes do, including the oversized intercooler. I guess the easy solution would be to turn up the boost until you reach your desired psi.

Thanks for the replies. I will see if I can find an intercooler with 2" in/out. Perhaps ebay will yield some results.
