What size charge pipes?

It would be on an LS with a .42/.48 T3 at about 7psi. Someone told me that if I use too big of pipe that I will have real bad lag...is this true? I was origonally going to use 2.5" but the guy who told me about this said to use 2" for my application.

What size are you guys using for your set ups?? Would 2.5" be too big??

whatever your FMIC uses...use the same size. ;)

Re:What size charge pipes?

7" wait no, 8"

run off the turbo the same as the turbo (to the IC) then from the IC the same as the IC (to the TB)

Yeah, i've got 2" on my turbo but 2.5" on my intercooler. I think i'll go that route..thanks.

I am going with 2.5" charge pipes, downpipe, and exhaust.

Re:What size charge pipes?

dont you think that 42/48 T3 on an Ls would be like "no lag" anyways??? thats a small turbo for an Ls in my opinion! i'm runnng that same turbo on a d16a6 1.6 sohc....so on a b18 1.8 dohc....i would use at least a 60/48 but most likely a 63/60 is the best T3 for that motor, unless you get the T3/T4, then were talking! i dont think it will matter for that setup...you're gonna spool up quickly no matter what!

2 to 3 works.

Re:What size charge pipes?

i see that youve got a 42/48 so youve got a 1 7/8 outlet off the turbo housing itself. heres what we did on my car. but i dont have an intercooler.

come of the turbo and match the size of the outlet. this sounds nutsy but it keeps a vortex from developing. then use some sort of stepped or ramped type cone to expand to 2.25 or 2.5 pipe. they key here is once you step up a size to stay at that size. do no neck down.

so he are the do nots.

don get to crazy with the pipe mating to the comrpessor. youllneed a really quikc but short 1 7/8 to 2.25,2.5 pipe no longer then 3-4 inches. you might think this would be restrictive but the outlet to the compressors inner diamteris 1 5/8 inchs

then step to the final size you use and stick with it. don do a

1 7/8 to 2/5 to 3 to 2.5 the will create a nightmare of vortices and eddys.

so make sure your intercooler pipe outlet and inlets match the final out diameter of your TB most likely 2.5 inches.

also by silicone hose for your conectins. rubber and even nitril rubber flexs so much youll loose 2-3 psi at each rubber 90* bend.

thats all i can offer.
