What rings are you guys running?
Hey everyone, quick question. What rings are you running in your motors (those who built them up a bit). I just picked up a set of perfect circle rings with the chrome top ring for my buildup. Just looking for some insite.

engine's not together yet, but that's what's in mine.

Re:What rings are you guys running?
couldn't a chrome top be considered bad for heat dissipation? I'm still on factory - uber!

Re:What rings are you guys running?
Total Seal gapless, hands down the best. They have the least amount of leakdown compaired to all other rings.

I was gonna do total seal, but I'm on some semblence of a budget (I fix Hyundai's for god sake, I don't get paid THAT much :-)

Re:What rings are you guys running?
Good topic.
Curious to hear any first hand exp. w/ TotalSeal. Like, how much of a beating (boost) have you put them through. Somehow I think stock would be just fine for just about anything. (fueling, timing spot on) The only thing thats really gonna knock your rings teeth out in a hurry is detonation. No set of rings is gonna put up with that; maybe shift the weakest link somewhere else. I'd rather break a ringland and burn a hole down the side of a piston then put a peep hole in the side of the block. No personal exp. here, but seems to make sense. |
Re:What rings are you guys running?
I installed total seals on a 4g63, and those fuckers are so picky, they would not seal up, I had to take them back out, and ------- hone the living ---- out of it.. But we did a leak down, and I think it was showing less than 5% in each cylinder, not bad!
