what is it that makes the in and out play on the turbo?
 
hey i was just wondering just after the other night turning my car off after boosting it with out the turbo timer on... it started smokin and ---- and i checked my turbo and there is alot of in and out play....

i think i am going to buy the rebuild kit for it but i was just wondering what is it that goes bad that makes it smoke like that and the shalft play to go in and now cuz there is like no side to side

Thrust washers, you get them with the kit, but you may have other problems.

alrigth thanks i mean it was totaly fine wheels feel good no side to side play...but we willsee i am going to rebuild it and see hwo it works since its my first and then sell it... or put it back in if i ever get money for my cam and valve springs cuz right now tis a little big

is your BOV working properly? that will kill a turbo quick if its slow to react.

and dont just rebuild that turbo and sell it. since you are asking questions like that, your rebuild might not go so great and then you will be selling a turbo to someone that might not last. im not trying to bash, thats just how it works.

it would really suck for the dude that buys a rebuilt turbo from a guy that never rebuilt a turbo before. just sell it as is needing a rebuild if you want to sell it

Yea, I'm not a big fan of self rebuilds anyway. At the rpm's turbos see, they have to be balanced. Everyone seems to know someone that has done their own rebuilds and it all went fine, but they really should be balanced. It doesn't take much to throw it out of balance.
