What I have so far

OK well i figure I should look to the turbo Gods now to make sure I am on the right track. I have about $700 invested and almost done gathering parts. So here is what I have so far:

http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/...Everything.jpg

For fuel I have a FMU and DSM 390cc injectors...I'm gonna ditch the FMU and go chipped with turboedit, FMU came with a package deal I got from a guy so it was almost free anyways...

http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/...idwac/Fuel.jpg

I have a 1st gen DSM BOV and a banks Boost guage (Thanks Dr. Boost) an a Apexi Electronic Boost controller...I know more than I need but again it was in a package deal...

http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/...c/BOVBoost.jpg

For the Mani I have a rev hard mani, it cracked and was welded. I plan on eventually swaping to a b18 so figured this would be good untill I do that...

http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/...idwac/mani.jpg

Wastegate I have an external Turbonetic Deltagate mark II, it was in the package deal I know a lot of people on here don't like them but untill I can afford a tial this is it, does anyone know how to tell what psi they are set at and if I can get a new spring for it?

http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/.../deltagate.jpg

Turbos, I have two right now a garret air research T3 .42/.48 a/r I hace a .60 a/r housing on its way to swap for that small ass .42 compressor side. Turbo #2 is a turbonetic T3/T4 .70/.48 it is toast, needs a rebuild and a compressor wheel, it was included in the package deal, pretty much for free, gonna rebuild and save it or sell it, don't know yet...

http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/Loserkidwac/T3.jpg
http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/...idwac/T3T4.jpg

I also have a spearco intercooler it is the first pic I don't have the measurements off the top of my head but it dosen't seem to big or too small..

Here is a pic of the concept pros, thanks stealthmode
http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/...ConceptPro.jpg

A pic of the motor...
http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/...dwac/motor.jpg

And finally a pic of my $500 91 CRX Si...
http://www.thefilebin.com/userfiles/.../Moneyshot.jpg

Ok, my goals are to hit around 180-200whp range, am i on the right track? I think all i have left to get is some charge pipes, couplers, downpipe and flanges. I gonna get some stealthmode oil lines, just waiting on some cash, I'm poor right now. Oh and an oil presurre guage, I'm just gonna save and get a wide band o2, will i be ok running without one for a little or should I just drop some bills on a narrow band untill then? OK well sorry for the hella long post but I wanna try and get the kit on over spring break which is around March 4th or soemthing and need to have everything ready for then. Whitey you gonna be home around then I am gonna need your services? Thanks a lot guys...Matt

Re:What I have so far

swapping to a 60 comp housing won't do much since you still got the 50 trim wheel

topspeed 02-13-2005 02:09 AM

Re:What I have so far

where did you buy that intercooler and for how much?

MikeJ-2009 02-13-2005 03:30 AM

Re:What I have so far

It's all about the $6 of flat black. The crx will be pimpin. haha

It looks like your kit is coming along. Make sure you have someone do your turboedit basemap that has done one before and you'll be good.

Re:What I have so far

What size wheel should I upgrade to? Give me some advice don't just tell me it won't do anything...

Topspeed...I got the intercooler used included with a lot of other stuff so I don't really know what they cost

Stealth I was really thinking about spraying it flat black
It would deffinately be awesome! I am thinking about getting xenocron to do my base map and then tune, he isn't to far from me...

Anyone have some advice for me just looking for some help here I'm still a noob witht this stuff, thanks...Matt

I'm comming home for spring break March 7 to the 11th but I don't know if I'll be able to help you. I got to finish my car and I have another turbo kit that I'm supposed to build so I'm probably going to be busy. If anything Housekenct or Knarr can help you out.

Good luck

Deltacreep might be something to look into swapping out, Ive read of it creeping well above desired boost level and on a stock motor would not be good

I grabbed a tial knockoff for $130 shipped on Ebay

Re:What I have so far

Thanks man, i really like that IC haha and i like those rims, are they 17's? I have 17 inch on my civic and i gotta say they are way better then my stocker 14's, i felt no difference in acceleration and all that BS horror stories people would tell you about bigger wheels making your car SLOW is crap IMO. Ohh and on the highway/freeway it makes a huge difference cause the wider track makes your car feel very steady, i went 160KM/h all the way down a high way and with my 14inch stock del sol alloys my car would feel like its going to lose it at that speed.

take your car to the dyno and you're guaranteed to notice the difference.

Great avatar!!
Kit look cool. One thing, I never understood how the old AFC worked as far as tuning. Anyone care to explain?
i had a digital one on my last set up

Loserkidwac 02-14-2005 06:22 PM

Re:What I have so far

The rims are 15x6.5 pretty ideal for a crx from what i've heard...If money wasn't so tight I'd definately grab a tail, are the knock offs reliable? That will probably be the first upgrade i do, I just have to use what i have right now

pheonixb16aguy I'm not using the FMU I only have it cause i orignally was going to now I am gonna go chipped ecu with turboedit

Speedracer32 what i have is the boost controller not the AFC but from what I'v seen the first gen AFC where just one knob and i guess you adjusted it from that didn't seem like it was very good!? I don't know...

Can anyone suggest a sive trim for the comprssor wheel, if i swap the .42 to a .60 a/r housing I am going to swap wheels but what would be best? what do the svo turbos use that have the .60 housings? ok thanks...Matt

B16Drag 02-14-2005 06:31 PM

Re:What I have so far

as they said before 50 trim but whats the point of doing that since you'll have to rebalance the entire shaft when you put on a new wheel? It'll just cost more money. Just slap on the compressor housing and call it a day... if not that then sell your turbo and get a .48/.60 or T3/T4.

Loserkidwac 02-14-2005 07:35 PM

Re:What I have so far

If I leave the wheel thats on there will I notice any difference if i just swap housings?? If I upgrade to a 60 trim will I gain much, I know I will have to rebalance so I will either swap housings and wheel before the install or do it afterwards, this isn't my daily driver so I can mess around. I already have the spare housing and I have a T3/T4 that needs a rebuild its a .70/.48 which is too big for a d series or I am told it its. Thanks for the help guys...Matt

P.S. anyone know where I can buy compressor wheels from? I'm having trouble find them, ebay even has a very limited selection

Is that a .70 compressor with a .48 turbine? Cause if it is than thats definitely not too big. Whats the trims on the wheels? I'm running a .60 compressor and a .63 turbine 57trim on my D-series with 8.0:1 comression.

holy ----, stealthmode auctually shipped you stuff?!?!? hahaha mark it on yer calendar! ;)

Loserkidwac 02-15-2005 09:01 PM

Re:What I have so far

Whitey its a T4 .70 A/R housing does that make any difference?? I was told it will lag a lot...but i'd take your work over most peoples.

Paul99ex the wheels came direct from the warehouse so I don't think Stealthmode had even touched them to not ship them on time ;)

Is it a .70 compressor or is the turbine .70?? I bet its a .70 compressor and I'll also put $20 on it that that turbo came from SSautoshit.

The turbine is really what decides the spool time, the compressor is more the CFM side of it. You can usually oversize a compressor and get away with it easier than an oversized turbine

Loserkidwac 02-15-2005 10:16 PM

Re:What I have so far

Turbonetics T3/T4 .70 a/r compressor and .48 a/r turbine, looks like you owe me $20 ;)

Damnit. :( Where the hell did you get a turbo with those numbers?? Thats an oddball combo so its alot rarer than the usual 60/48's that came with all the turbo kits. That would be really good on a D series and I would get it rebuilt and run that. your spool time will actually be really good with that 48 turbine

Loserkidwac 02-15-2005 10:29 PM

Re:What I have so far

I pretty much got it for free cause it needs a rebuild, everything else I got with it seems to be from a revhard kit so I assume it came with those kits. I guess I shouldn't listen to everyone on the internet, i ordered a t3 .60 a/r cause i though turbonetics was to big ??? Oh well I'll just get that rebuild and a new wheel for it and swap that in when I have money again and lay down so good numbers when I turn the boost up!!

Reddy 02-15-2005 11:27 PM

What website told you that was too big of a turbo? :-\

I guess I was taking hotrex's advice and should have known better, but I think he was thinking the same thing as you that the turbine was a .70 a/r

Ok, I have a noob question about turbos with those types of wastegates. When you take them off the turbo, the flapper comes off with it right? So doesnt that mean that if you removed the internal wastegate and ran that turbo, all the exhaust would just leak out the flapper hole? I'm sure I'll feel like a dumbass when someone explains this, so help me out.

Loserkidwac 02-16-2005 09:09 PM

Re:What I have so far

Yes you are correct the flapper is connected to the wastegate housing and if you remove the housing there is a whole. You need to have a flange that will block off the wastegate whole ;) search egay for a t3 exhaust flange to see what I am talking about. Just weld your downpipe tot hat and there you go.

Re: What I have so far

Ok, well since I posted this i recieved some more parts.

1. Stealthmode oil line kit, pessure valve, and firewall kit
2. Weir Racing Flanges are in the mail as we speak
3. ECU is about to be sent to Xenocron for chipping and turbo edit basemap
4. Waste gate spring from EIP tunning in the mail, 3-5 psi range
5. Japanese Instruction manual for Apexi AVC-D, and I have a translater ready, I'll post this so everyone can benefit from it, it was sucha bitch to find.
6. Ghetto air tool filter catchcan

Ok so I am pumped to get this thing put together. I am thinking all I need is to make my charge pipping and down pipe. How bad is it to run without an oil pressure guage or a/f guage. Just trying to save cash here cause i am tight on money and just want this thing running. Also am I missing anything important...thanks, Matt
