Quad scroll ftw! But really, I advise you that you do not purchase this turbo seeing as it will not help your situation because I believe it would literally be near impossible to fabricate enough parts to make it work, it is probably off of a European truck or something ridiculous.

OK i figured it out, Its a water cooling jacket

what would happen if I ran It without coolant?

is that off a boat or something? that is a weird place to have a water jacket...would the water have to flow through the exhaust manifold?

Hey guys, that's my red turbo there (in the link) :)

I'd advise against getting that craigslist turbo for your car, as it's a pain in the back side to get to fit. Get a holset with a normal exhaust housing, or at least buy a normal housing for it if you've bought it already.

However, if you do want to proceed with the turbo, you should be able to run it without water cooling, my car did OK for about 3000 miles until I tore the engine down again for further modifications, and it seemed fine (temperature wise etc).

One massive problem with the water cooled exhaust housing is that it seems taller than a normal one, i.e. your turbo will end up further down than if you have a normal housing, which might lead to oil return problems (you end up with a shallower slope on the return line).

I don't know what engine you're planning on sticking the turbo on, but at least on my 2.3 / 16v saab engine, I didn't get proper boost until 4500 rpm. In first, there was no boost at all as the turbo didn't have time to spool up, in second it would make about 15psi at the red line and in third it kind of came into it's stride.

Once the turbo was boosting OK, the car was absolutely mental (much faster top end than my 390bhp impreza), but it became tiring to drive quickly because it had to be revved so much all the time. It did the 70-130 interval rather nicely, but it was a bit of a "one trick pony".

I've got myself a twin scroll HX-35 to replace the H1C as I want some low end spool back :)
