Do you guys know what an open wastegate is supposed to sounds like? I don't know if my car is pinging, or if it's just the sound of the valves operating when the open wastegate opens. It seems to only happen after a certain boost pressure so I'm guessing it's the wastegate.

You shouldn't hear any difference when the wastegate opens, unless you have it dumping to the atmosphere.

If you are hearing pinging after a certain boost level, I would say pull the plugs and look real close for signs of detonation, because I think you gots sum!

 

it sounds just like an exhaust leak. I really can't notice mine much over the 3" N1 exhaust.. it might be louder outside the car..

I actually did pull the plugs and they looked fine. My wastegate is dumping to atmosphere right now.

 

it sounds like a lawnmower when your are driving around and when you hit fill boost depending on the wastegate it shoul be crackling
