What do you think?turbo
so on a local forum there is a kid that is selling a Garrett T3/T04E 57 trim 63 a.r .and he said that there are 3 bolts broken off on the exhaust side and he is selling it for $125..
would this be worth to pick up and try to fix or send to blaast for a re-build? or say ---- it and buy a newer one from blaast for $500 for the same turbo...im in the process of buying turbo stuff for my car...im in no hurry but when i see something that i need..i ty to buy it...already have mani, intercooler, all the pipes and a/f, boost gauge. so what do yall think... |
Re: What do you think?turbo
Why would it need a rebuild if a few studs are broken?

Re: What do you think?turbo
No need to send it to Blaast if it just needs studs pulled. If you want to you can get an ez-out or something like that and re-tap the holes. Most machine shops will pull the studs and repair the hole(s) for a very nominal fee. It's worth $125 if it's good and just needs the studs yanked. If you can rebuild it yourself and find somewhere to do a dynamic balance then it might be worth getting even if it's blown. I rebuild turbos all the time and with a balance I usually pay $175 for parts/balancing. Those are mainly MHI turbos too and the rebuild kits cost more than a Garrett. If you send it off for a rebuild it probably won't be worth it if you can get a new one for $500. IDK of many shops that charge less than $250-$300 for a base rebuild which goes up quickly if any major components need to be replaced.
