Re:welding charge pipes----- steel/stainless???

is the steel from CCA aluminized??? will that make it hader to weld???

any clue where to get it for a good price???

cca has 90 bends for 10.50 for steel and 15 for stainless..... you think i can find it cheaper than that?

i know what ID is(internal diameter) and OD (outside diameter)

but whats this ID/OD or OD/OD stuff???

i was hoping to go with 2.5 ID but i cant seem to find it.....

Stainless intercooler piping is not necessary. mild steel and just paint it is fine. If your going to spend real money on chargepipes than get aluminum.

Custom coach and TunerToys both carry bends. So don't go buying them from some jack that doesn't sponsor your favorite website. :P

Re:welding charge pipes----- steel/stainless???

just pick up steel bends from CCA and paint them black...the money saved can be put elsewhere

92hatchattack 11-18-2004 08:15 PM

Re:welding charge pipes----- steel/stainless???

wouldnt black be like the worst possible color to paint your ic piping??? lol

so far im looking at cca with the stainless.... i dont think i want to go with just regular steel....

Re:welding charge pipes----- steel/stainless???

I'll only rock black ic pipes, stainless or not I'd still paint them black 8)

Re:welding charge pipes----- steel/stainless???

stainless is a waste. Do you put alot of salt in your engine bay or what? Paint them black!!!! ;)

DONT RUN ALUMINUM IC PIPING. Aluminum soaks up under hood heat, negating the effects of the intercooler. Stainless is the best. It doesnt heat soak like steel and you dont have to paint or plate it. Steel is fine if you want to save a few bucks, ask for galvanized steel when you order, it never rusts.

Re:welding charge pipes----- steel/stainless???

I definitely don't agree with this :-\

Alum. actualy dissipates heat where steel and SS actually hold it longer. Alum. is certainly the best material to use for charge pipes!

i think it would only dissipate heat when there was airflow, so under the hood it might just grab up all the heat since it has good heat transfer properties....right?

I agree with just getting steal and painting them.I got mine frome Summit and paid $60somthing shipped for enough 2.25" manderals to do my setup. And I think I had a few bends left over.

But I disagree with using aluminum.Heat is extreamly atracted to aluminum.I would do steel or stainless if your a baller.Remember you can polish the stainless just as easyly as aluminum ;)

Why not arrange a Group buy for some Mandrel Bends then? :)

QUESTION
DSM T25 on a z6. How big do you guys think I should have my charge piping? 2", 2.25" or 2.5"??

HMT-Admin 11-20-2004 07:18 PM

Re:welding charge pipes----- steel/stainless???

2.5 the entire way, but off the turbo it will be small around 2in, Just get a adapter or something to enlarge it before it goes into the intercooler.
