ways to save money
 

I figured that one thread that is missing are general ways to save money when making a turbo kit. I know we all talk about junkyard turbos and such, but i found the little things can add up to quite a few dollars. Here are a few of the money savers I have found...

1) Spark Plug Non foulers--They can be used for an O2 bung. the product number is 42009 and they are like $4 for 2. its a 18mm. you just need a 18mm pipe plug for like $4 as well to plug up the bunges. $8 for 2 02 bunges which are generally $10 a piece

2) DSM 450cc Injectors (everyone knows about them though...)

3) 1g DSM BOV. Can be had between $30-50 and is a great BOV. I suggest it to anyone looking for a good inexpensive BOV.

Someone in the general discussion also mentioned going to a muffler shop such as meinkie on a sunday evening and going through their dumpsters for charge pipes. I think this is an excellent idea....

Another good BOV that can be had for like 10 bucks is the one off the older saab turbos. Its adjustable and looks just about the same as the dsm 1st gen. Another good tip is to use the right parts the first time. Spend that extra few bucks for the good ---- or you'll be replacing things all the time. Good example would be couplings. Radiator hose is perfect to use as couplings and works just as good as silicon. Just dont buy those cheap bastards from lowes.

Yeah, and if you get really brave, you can make your charge pipes out of the hand rail at McDonalds. (mentioned a while back) ;D

where are you buying real O2 bungs?!?!?! the place i bought mine from they where 5bucks apeice, and last time i bought one it was like ~6bucks locally (made by Holley too)...

This a bov I got off of a late 80s model Volvo.I paid $6.50 for it at a junk yard.It has a bolt on top to adjust the spring stiffness.It will hold up to 14psi.

Not bad for $6.50!Plus I like them better than the DSM ones.

you can crush the top of the 1g DSM BOV about 1/4" with a rubber mallet to hold more boost. (free)

Yeah but you still have to pay $35-$40 bucks for the DSM bov!.......plus I dont know my own streangth sometimes what if I hit it too hard and kill it :P

I have used dozens of those BOVs,they are great. They are so easy to find and cheap. The U pull it yards usually charge you for a EGR valve, $5 or so.
