Water Methanol Injection

The ingredients on winshield wiper fluid are methanol and distiled water. someone told me that if you take your windshiled sprayer tube, and spray it into your intake, it is somewhat the effects of nitrous. now i know what nitrous does (freezes the air, making so more air can be compacted into the cylinder) but some cars in drag racing used to run off of pure methanol. he said that i would need it to be a mist, so i would have to get a 25shot connection from a nitrous setup and connect it to my intake. will this add horespower???? your opinious are wanted

Re:Water Methanol Injection

i dont get it....do you think i can find a fitting at homedepot? because all i need is a fitting that will mist...right? i mean..this is going to be homemade...but this really does work? i mean..i know i have to have a very fine mist, but it will work? i have a 95' integra LS (b18b) ...i/h/e ....how much hp do you think this will add?

Re:Water Methanol Injection

All that does is allow you to run more boost or timing and not detinate. It also aloows you to run lower octane gas. It more of a pain in the ass for a driven car. On a racer I would give it a whirl. I was going to set it up just as a project. You have to atomize the water.

Re:Water Methanol Injection

i know i have to atomize the water, i just had to find a fixture that will do that, i am sure Home Depot/Menards will have something like that. anyways...will it do much to my N/A car?

Re:Water Methanol Injection

nope i doubt it will do anything for a n/a car. the methanol it contains is very little otherwise you would see
flamable warning stickers on the windshield washer bottles.
it's used more in forced induction for it's cooling capabilities. you want the most bang for your buck? install a 50shot of nitrous, that'll put a smile on your face.

treb-nordap.... where are you located?? I could have sworn i saw a civic that looked EXACTLY like yours (not surprising, IT IS a civic) rite outside my building...

Re:Water Methanol Injection

i know it doesnt condense the air quit like CO2 or N20 would, but i am not sayin that this will add 100hp...will i see a minor 5-20hp? i mean...that is still a BIG hp for like what...10cents and 15mins of your time....u get the point

Re:Water Methanol Injection

Another thing you should consider is how pure is that windshield washer fluid? I wouldn't want to be spraying contaminated blue ---- into my engine...but maybe we see things differently. :P

DeleriouS 10-11-2004 01:07 PM

Re:Water Methanol Injection

lol...no...i know what u mean. doubt anything is contaminated, and if it was...i doubt that it would hurt my engine...since it gets how hot??? lol

so does anyone know if this would increase even a little bit of hp? what if i injected nitro fuel...from those little RC cars? ;D

Re:Water Methanol Injection

.....

nitrous does not freeze air and cram more into your cylinder (mtv street racer true life ::) )

nitrous oxide contains more molecules of oxygen per volume than ambient air, and thats how it creates power.

read up on it. nitrous contains more oxygen than ambient air and thats why people inject it into their engine. If you were to inject straight oxygen into your engine it would blow apart. some rockets run off of liquid oxygen. nitrous is not a fuel nor does it burn. it simply adds more oxygen to combustion which is a needed ingredient for combustion.

although cooling of the intake charge is a small side effect of using nitrous, as decompressed gas is cooler than ambient gas, saying nitrous creates power by supercooling the intake charge is liek saying a turbocharger creates power because the intercooler cools the intake charge.

nitro fuel would probaly make you run hot I used it in a goped worked really good for fuel but seized the motor(twice the top end)it also contains lots of oil not really a good idea

really??? i didnt know that...do rc cars run off of high compression or sparkplug? they are somewhat like diesle?

Re:Water Methanol Injection

glow plugs (like diesel)

Re:Water Methanol Injection

windshield water pumps cant make enough pressure to mist water...ive already tryed LOL... id say its not worth the hassle...if you have an extra washer bottle and pump laying around have it spry on your intercooler instead =) 0.02

---- it! Just run out of your car spray it with a can of those "duster" cleaner and run back in your car before the lights turn green! C'mon HMT BABY!

^^^Like he said, but instead just make a hose for yourself, it is really just a simplified version of the small NO2 systems.

put a turbo on it, you should notice some difference in power

dustoff is CO2, and isnt the same as N20. C02 is a lot different. You would also need to have the can upside down for the CO2 to come out.

since all you're doing is "supercooling the air" then there would be no difference between N20 and C02 for the purpose. both are compressed gas that cools as it expands
