Chacko, how much did you spend total on this project? I know it's saffer on the engine (which is good), but what power gain do you think you got from this? 10-12 %... of course like you said, the higher the temp, the more the water injection can do.

I'm seriously going to do this now... I have room up front, but I want to put it in the back because I already have too much weight up there, and the trunk is ideal for something like this... I want to do it up front, but I'm adding so much weight up there, what do you think I should do? I've got like 2 square feet to add a tank, and I can mount the pump directly below that (where the stock resonator box goes), and the line would be super easy to run... I can't wait to throw this thing together.

Doesn't the water screw up your engine? I am not getting how this works.

this may be somewhat incroct.. but not in full

the water is sprayed in in a VERY fine mist... because of it being so fine and how hot the intake temps are the water nearly instantiosly turns into steam... a gassios state for water (water is liquid, ice, or steam) while it'd soing this it rapidly cools down the intake carge because of the engergy required to convert water to steam.

because the water is turned into steam you no longer have to wory about hydro lock in the cylinders (water doesn't compress... gas does)... also because of steam being present it supposidly helps clean the valves and stuff because of the hot mositure... though i can't say how true that is.

the problem w/ this is injecting to much water at some point will mean not all the water is being converted into gas so you're injecting stright water, to much water and the motor goes BOOM because of hydro lock.

Steven Dick and I have been discussing this for the past several days. I'm not sure that you need a pump capable of 100 psi... you can get 45-60 psi pumps for $40 if you look, and rigging them to run a bit more psi than that is fairly easy.

Check out this link Steven kicked me tonight: http://home.ccci.org/Key_Information...rInjection.htm

150 degree temp drop with water injection, all at or below 40 psi on a setup that boosts to 15+ psi. Hardcore.

autospeed had an article about this too. they used a washer pump to supply water to a mixing nozzle, and boost pressure on the other side of the nozzle to atomise the water and injected it before the turbo so the impeller blades would atomise it further.

i emailed the guy on the key merkur site about 2 years ago asking about his 3rd gen system. i know he states that it's a bad idea to inject the water into the turbo (and i agree) because of wear on the impeller blades, but apparently if the water is atomised well enough there aren't any real problems with wear.

i know that mcmaster sells nozzles that only requre about 20psi to produce a fine mist, and they sell for about $5 each. a windshield washer pump could easily provide 20psi.

a few more sites if anyone is interested:
http://www.dawesdevices.com/howto.html
http://www.510again.com/articles/watering/watering.html
http://www.autospeed.com/A_0115/cms/article.html

each uses a slightly different method...

couldn't you just spray water directly onto the intercooler?wouldn't that cool charge temps down quite a bit? chacky do you have a charge temp gauge? and if you do what does it read when you spray?

You could spray directly onto the intercooler if you have one.

You can spray onto it (this would be pointless and a waste of water) Dont spray into the intercooler!

LOL, into or onto?

I know that if you spray a fine mist ONTO the intercooler and it evaporates quicky, it has the same effect as water injection, but it's still not as good... and spraying a mist onto the intercooler is gay because you have to time it just right.. it's almost complicated..

... on the other hand, water injection is just dang simple, and why wouldn't anyone want to do it?

and another thing. This post should be a sticky! Arg!
