water injection for detonation supression
 

will water injection allow me to safely run highly advanced timing due to my safc2? so mr cars a/f ratio is 12.5:1 and im getting a huge advance in timing at 10psi using my safc2. should i shoot for a richer a/f ratio? i put together a water injection kit from http://www.turbomirage.com/water.html and i know water injection help get rid of detonation but will it work for detonaition due to timing? any help would be great thanks

There is always point where you simply can't surpress it. With enough water, you can surpress nearly any amount of detonation.
There is an NASA (national aeronautics safety administration) paper from 1942 about "internal water cooling" on an internal combustion engine.

On a 200ci single piston engine, they could run a good bit more boost, & more power without detonation at a 15-1 A/F ratio by substituting (not ADDING) 20% water for 20% fuel than they could at 12.5-1 with 100% fuel. They ran more at a 20%/80% at 12.5-1 than they could at 10-1 with 100% fuel.

What's interesting, is that they ran almost as much power at 15- 40% water than they could at 10-1 @ 100% fuel.
Obviously running half water & half fuel isn't practicle for any of us, but it does serve as a huge demonstration to the lean-out safety water injection has if you're using it for safety isntead of trying to tune farther than your fueling can supply for.


So yes... It'll get rid of your detonation problem as long as you keep water in the tank.

He will hurt your brain if he starts talking about water injection. He has a recent post with water injection info...check the FI or engine managment section. It's great stuff.

i read all the topics i could find that he wrote and yah my head does hurt but it was some really good info... now that i decided to install my kit does anybody know where to get the aquamist nozzles from? i have one but im not sure what size it is...
