Water Inj. Question
 

Alrighty, so my dad has a 1998 suburban with a supercharged 454 in it. It's running about 6 psi right now but we want more power. We tried putting on a 8 or 10 lb pulley but there was a lot of pinging at high rpm's. Also, this car isn't "tuned" it's just got the computer plug in that whipple provides.

I've been reading a lot about water injection and I had a couple questions for this application:

Since I can't tune the car - could I just do the water injection for 6 psi and up and leave it?
Will I need a bigger aquamist nozzle because of such a big engine? If so, how big?

Intercooling isn't an option because of the design, but I really want the higher boost back. Help!

people mix water and alcohol for more boost i have seen it on some chevy v8's trying to pluck evry last hp out of the engine but not in that high a displacement it was a 350. but i would say if u want to run more boost you will have to use a higher octane or get a set of dished pistons for it what kind of ignition system are your runing?

stock ignition. What's the difference on a higher displacement?

higher the displacement the more fuel you will need the ratio for water injection is 10- 15% water for the amout of fuel your using its 25% for alcohol water mix it works realy well form what i hear with a 50/50 water alcohol mix

you can get more power out of that engine alone with a new ignition but i wouldent use a beter ignition if your knocking unless you want to use a higher octane gas what kind of gas are you useing?

i can suggest a better nozzle than the aquamist, but its intended for methanol injection, which would work just as well actually.

here's the link to his meth injection section, he also has pumps and filters. from there you need some sort of pressure switch to activate it at a certain boost level, and a cheap fuel cell, or hell TJ uses a washer bottle.

methanol will greatly lower IAT's. You can run quite a bit leaner, and run more timing with alot less risk of detonation. Quote from Lucas "I've run as much as 31 degrees of timing at 20lbs, but it didnt make any power past 28 degrees, so i just left it there" talking about his wifes galant vr-4. It's still not a good idea to run it too lean, but TJ ran his crx a couple passes at about 20-22psi on mid 13 AFR's before I showed up at the track to fix it. Never heard any pinging and it ran like crazy and still does.

i trust fook, i have seen it on a chevy v8 before so its safe to assume that it works fairly well

alot of people that I know of on (http://jbody.org) use water injection on the 2.4l twin cam with the GM charger on it, they say that the water injection helps a ton with heat soak. makes it feel like its a cold day everyday
and helps with detonation
