Water cooling AIR to AIR Intercooler!!!

Some might think that I am crazy, but I have an idea......

So to start my last car was a chevy astro van with 290,000 miles, the car tended to overheat when towing, so a mechanic had the idea to convert the window washer fluid into a water misting device to help cool the radiator. all it did was mist water in front of the radiator, and it helped to cool it down. So I was wondering, would that work with an intercooler to help cool the intake charge. What do you guys think, would that work well with the way an intercooler is made? well anyways, just a thought.

Were you born yesterday?

Mitsu and Subaru have this as a standard feature on some of their cars.

nope, not yesterday, and I guess it must be a good idea then if mistu and subura already have it, well not so original, but I still am glad I thought of it though.

Ohh and thanks for being so welcoming!

What cars had that option? I've never heard of it before... :-\

yeah, ive never heard of it as an option for cars, but i do know that its fairly easy to just put sprayers by the ic to cool it some.

Has anybody ever heard of a WRX STI?

wow your crazy man, thinking like that can kill people. nah man go for it, its a valid idea. Im yet to hear of anyone getting serious gains but ive never heard of one part making all the difference in the world. its a bunch of things together.

They have sprayer setups? I've only had my hands on regular WRX's, never a STi.

all STI ,Evo MR and a few seleted model evos came with factory intercooler spraying system(or how ever the ---- u call it :8).
but i don`t really see how someone could use it on a daily basis :S,

because ist automated. it doesn't start spreying til like 14psi then stops when you go below it. pressure activated solenoid activates the misting... its easy.

Nar they are manual operated.

Re: Water cooling AIR to AIR Intercooler!!!

Are you guys talking about water injection? Where a mist is injected into the air charge to help cool and prevent detonation?

becuase I just meant misting water on the OUTSIDE of the intercooler if you read the post.
with the idea to have air and water cool the intercooler

save ur self the trouble of trying to "build" such a 1 of a kind project... man this idea is as old as it gets. there were even guys on this site that made one. welcome to the year 1990.

they even have cooler ---- like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPRAY...spagenameZWD1V

shoots c02 at it, co2 is a colder substance n would drop temps more then jus shooting water at it. i mean how much would shooting water realy even help? like seriously...

Re: Water cooling AIR to AIR Intercooler!!!

all i know is it was very easy and worked quite well in my other car to keep it from overheating. I just used the window wiper fuid tank and lines, ran one to a copper coil line, put holes in it where needed, and put water in the tank, and when the car started to overheat I would turn that on (window washer switch) and it helped a decent amount in keeping the car from overheating. now i understand that a radiator and intercooler may be affected differently by water coming on them to cool the inside (as air and oils have different heat properties)

Re: Water cooling AIR to AIR Intercooler!!!

i didnt say it wont work. jus said those are kits ready to be used for those who want to. c02 being more affective imo

ohh no, I understood, I was just saying it could be done for a few bucks real easily, thats all.
