Wastegate woes.

Ok a thousand pardons if this has been discused before.

What kind of PSI settings are most wategates factory set to.
I got my turbo off egay and it was orignally on some Ford.

Funny thing is when first setup it would boost to 10 psi no problem.
Then it wouldnt boost past 6.

SPent 2 weeks looking for leaks and spending hours reworking the plumbing.
Then realised that at arround 6 psi the needle would start to flutter. Typicall waste gate opening stuff.

Another friend same problem installed would boost to 10 then sudenlly WG is opening at 6 PSI. Hence this doubt.

In frustration last night disconected the waste gate and sealed it.
First second slow turn accelrate hard into turn at 100+ the front wheel breaks loose. Wife says the boost gauge was reading 16 psi.

Basic question what are thes WG suposed to open at.

Anyway what Im doing for now is. weld that stupid WG shut.
Weld on the neck of a radiator onto the plumbing. Buy two radiator caps. One rated for 4 psi and one rated for 16 PSI.
When the wife is driving put on the 4 psi cap. When Im driving put on the 16 psi cap.

Im really pissed with this WG problem.

if its from a ford 60/48 or 60/63 its supposed to be 10psi... Are you sure your setup is ok? If it flutters that is wierd and not normal... maybe try another known good actuator?

Ive seen 3 cars so far all with Junk yard turbos and all fluter (Refering to the needle on the boost gauge here). The needle will float at arround the psi rating where it opens. Also it never really opens like fully open. It starts to lift the presure drops and this goes on. Ive never seen the WG open more than a fraction (Hook up a 50$ wireless camera in the engine bay. And you can see whats going down on a portable TV inside the car. Or check it out on rollers.
Disconecting the boost controled at least verifed that there isnt anything wrong with the turbo or the plumbing. Even with the wheels spinging at 100 in 2nd there was no deto or pinging.
I think Ill take your advise and just go for an in cabin MBC.
Looks easy enoughf to hook up. Though Id prefer something I could programe.

The funny bit is all these WGs where working at 10 PSI but after some runing seem to be still working but have now seteled down to 6 PSI.
On the 1.8 COntesa Ive recomended a spring and that seems to be working now.
Ps: Pity we dont have Napa or Homedepo in our country LOL.
