Wastegate question

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if a wastegate a nessecity for a turbo...or could I just use a manual boost controller. My Turbo doesn't have a built in wastegate and...dont want to get a maifold with a wasegate thats why.

you obviously dont know what a wastegate does

Re: Wastegate question

hm...maybe not...sets boost at a certain psi with actuator. Controls exhaust air by letting some out and using some to make the desired psi from intake side? Hm..just my guess

Your correct, but yes you do need a wastegate otherwise you will have no set boost limit and you will end up blowing your engine. A boost controller will only raise the boost pressure beyond the preset wastegate setting. It does not lower boost pressure.

Thank You. That was what I just wanted to know before I do something really stupid.

Re: Wastegate question

on top of blowing the motor, youll more than likely blow the turbo. since they spin at incredible rpms, they have to be limited to some degree. if not, it would overspool and fry the oil in the bearings, and blowthe turbo.
