Wastegate Issue on D16
Well I went to install my turbo project last weekend, and ran into a issue. I cant fit the internal wastegate between the trubo and block. I am going to run a 14B on a HF manifold on a D16Z6. My question is, how have those who are running this setup installed their wastegates? If you have done this very install and have pictures of what you have please pm or post them here please!!! This is the last thing I have so I can boost my car!!! I have been waiting almost a year to do this, so please please help me out.

Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
adjust the turbo and make a new braket for the WG arm ?

Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
I adjusted the turbo so that the j-pipe would work, my problem is that I cant fit the wastegate between the block and turbo, I know I have to make a bracket, but I dont know exactly where it needs to be or whether or not I have to shorten or lengthen the arm.

Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
As far as shortening or leangthening the arm taht will depend on where you make the braket.
If its hitting on the web on the block near the ac condensor mount, most people just gring that down.Just be carefull not to go all the way through. |
Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
u have a/c on that ex?

Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
if you cant get enough clearance... just mount the wastegate farther away (either bolt it to somthing else and/or make a new bracket that lets you use a mounting bolt from somthing else) and then use some threaded rod or if your really ghetto, coat hanger or somthing and connect the wastegate flapper to the actuator end.

Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
if you make the arm longer doesnt it lower your boost?

if you have the flapper againist the outlet when you make a longer rod, then it will still work like it should. |
Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
No A/C, it was only weighting me down!!

Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
then bend the actuator bracket and bolt it to one of the a/c mount bolts

So is no one going to help???? I just want to see a picture of what someone has done.

Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
Take off the actuator and put the manifold and turbo on you car. Make sure at least that fits.
From there, you really need to gauge how much space you have behind your turbo. I kind of just threw my wastegate in loose, bolted the manifold to the block and it worked. So I had to figure out how to attach it. I'll tell you now, the wastegate actuator touches the turbo and it touches the block... That's how tight it is. I just started hacking up little flat brackets I got from Lowes, maybe slotted them a little until I got it to work... Just make sure when you put your actuator back on that it closes the flapper. Not super tight, just snug... If it doesn't fit behind the turbo, you need to see if you can lengthen the arm. If you can't lengthen the arm, get a new manifold.... Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
i ran a 14b with HF manifold on a d16. what i did was unbolt the actuator from the compressor housing, clock the compressor housing to where it was pointing up and slightly towards the front of the car, then using a small stack of washers, bolt the actuator back onto the compressor housing using only one bolt.
It worked fine. |
Re: Wastegate Issue on D16
lol, i had this problem.
i started grinding away at the block, so i could make the aucuter fit, low and behold, i put a hole in the ------- block. jb weld is a lifesaver. now to add to this thread, take your aucuter to home depot, buy some threaded rod the same size as your aucuater rod. then just extend your rod and mount the auctuater in a different location. bacially you have to "nigga" rig it up there somehow. get creative. if all else fails, check out what I did in my set up (link in sig) I plan on remounting my aucuater this weekend somehow, but i plan on doing it just how i tried to explain. im sure alot of "afro engernieering" will come into play.
