Default wastegate dumping all times

my buddies car is running a d16y7 with a t3/t4 .57 trim and a 35mm wastegate... now he has a direct line from the turbo inlet to the wastegate BOTTOM fitting.

whats happening is, at idle you can hear the dumptube dumping exhaust, and even worse while driving

does he have something hooked up wrong? you cant even hear the turbo spool anymore, what we finally did was block off the dumptube with some tin off a pop can and finally am able to hear the BOV, never before have heard it

any ideas? any questions?

By turbo inlet, do you mean the filter side?

Is there a spring in it? Is the spring fucked?

Try running the vac line from the wastegate to your intake manifold. I have always had better results that way. also maybe the vac line is cracked or small rip somewhere. Oh hey i never got that payment for the muffler your still interested??

running the vac line to the intake, or turbo outlet, or charge pipe, or even leaving it complete disconnected won't matter for your problem, something is not together right otherwise with the wastegate. Take it off and see why it is not closing completely.

You said you can't hear the turbo spool 'anymore' and you took the wastegate apart last fall. Sounds like it didn't go back together properly.

i could never hear the turbo spool to begin with.. once i put the tin between the WG and the dumptube it was finally spooling til i took the tin back out... and something was messed up before i took the WG apart, its still doing the same problem that it did before, i mean i couldve put it back together wrong but it seemed pretty straight forward?

make sure the diaphram isnt pinched, make sure the spring is lined up fine, and tighten the allen heads in cross pattern
