wastegate attached or not

if i leave my wastegate flapper unhooked will the turbo overspool. i am talking about when some people leave their turbos unboosted to break in their new engines but still have the charge piping all hooked up.

No. I ran mine like that. As long as the charge piping is hooked up and that your not raping it (breaking it in I doubt it) you should be alright.

alright then what about this. If i just wanted to leave my wastegate unhooked for commuting would that be acceptable. the reason i ask is because i am going to be runing an ihi rhb5 and i commute 100 miles a day. when i say commute i mean rarely revving over 5k rpms and l would like to leave the turbo all hooked up but not worry about cruising in boost or low boost up hills. i also like getting 37mpg during my commute. just wondering if the turbo would be ok.
thanks

Leave it hooked up. I got 36mpg last tank. You'll learn how to drive your car outta boost and get around the same mileage. At first you'll suck and boost all the time, then you'll get the hang of it and get 34mpg easy. You could just, wait, rhb5. That's set at like 7psi huh? My stock WG is set at like 4psi. You could unplug your MBC and run stock WG settings if you like, but heck dude. Leave it hooked up. You'll get the hang of it. Trust me.

alright if you say so. i understand that when you cruise with light throttle you are closed loop with the ecu trying to maintain an a/f ratio of 14.7:1 have you had any problems with running lean in low boost or do you just run open loop all the time. thanks for the help. i love learning about this ----. i wish more people in the sacto area had meetings
