wastegate actuator
Iv had some weird problems with my wastegate actuator. I have a 14b turbo on a d15b7. When i first put it on everything was fine ran 8 psi solid. Then it started to only do like 5 psi then all the way down to 2 psi. I figured something was wrong like boost leak. So i did a leak down test and the actuator was bleeding out air. it was leaking luckly i had another one. I put that one on and it ran 8 psi solid everything was fine for like another 2 months then i let it sit for like a week. I went and drive it and it was only going to 5 psi. I know that this is the corect from the boost gauge because there is no power at all, compared to the 8 psi. SO then i did leak down test nothing everything was fine. So i noticed it sounded alittle louder out of the dump tube, and i found out the wastegate flapper was not closing all the way. so i tried to put washers on the wasteactuator to pull it away farther from the turbo. It thighten it up and it closed the flap up good ran like 8 psi but the boost inst strong at all and the pressure is all fucked up it will spike to 10 psi then go to 5 psi then like 7psi and stay there till i shift. I was just wondering has anybody ever had to go through two wastegate actuators in less then a year and any ideas on why they keep messing up or do you think i just got two crappy ones. Thanks

Re: wastegate actuator
An easier solution you may want to try:
Hook up a spring to your wastegate flapper. Don't get a very stiff one or you will raise the boost more than you want, but get one that will apply just a little bit of pressure to hold the flapper shut when it needs to be. |
Re: wastegate actuator
I've had the same EXACT problem. Personally, I have tried the spring idea which was great in a pinch, but spool was definitly affected.
Put some washers between the actuator and housing, effectively putting tension on the flapper. Should do the trick ;) |
