Volvo TDO5-12b Turbo (Can She Bolt on a Standard HF with Adapter Plate)
I purchased a TD05 off a Volvo 740 wagon, I like the size of the turbo and pretty sure it is capable of 7-8 psi. However, I have a couple of concerns about mounting the turbo to a exhaust manifold suitable for a D16Z6. The long bolts securing the manifold to the turbo screw in the opposite way they would for a 14b.
My only guess would be to use an HF manifold and create an adapter plate for it like the T-25 or 14b, and modify the holes for the turbo and ream out the threads and screw into the adapter plate? If anyone would be willing to give suggestions I would appreciate it, because I would like to use the turbo since I got it for a relatively cheap price. |

I would pick the shovel,
there would be no use in getting raw with the cat.. IMO,the d16z6 is over taken from large amounts of skouling listen to every word I SAY!!! the volvo is not the right way to charge when deciding on factors in any route you take, clear for all the winter of house's,staying for the turbo clean for cares less can take walks with me fine then dont listen to me |
Re: Volvo TDO5-12b Turbo (Can She Bolt on a Standard HF with Adapter Plate)
Thats nice, I was wondering if it would work or not, or if anyone has ran one in their setup before. I got it for dirt cheap and want to use it, so I would like to know.

The turbine inlet has the 4-bolt pattern threaded? If so, just drill them out.
That turbo should have a T3 pattern which is good, but it will have that inset circle. You can weld the top of the circle on the top and bottom, then grind/sand it flat. ...or have it machined flat. ...or if the adapter is big enough, just make a larger gasket to seal the circular pattern. I don't see why it won't work. Just do it. |
Re: Volvo TDO5-12b Turbo (Can She Bolt on a Standard HF with Adapter Plate)
Thanks man, that gives me the green light then. Would you happen to know if I could bypass the integrated BOV by removing it and fabing up a plate to cover it. The 12b is a fully integrated turbo with an internal waste gate and a BOV mounted on the outlet. Should I use the BOV or bypass?

Re: Volvo TDO5-12b Turbo (Can She Bolt on a Standard HF with Adapter Plate)
??? Did you read at all?
You can weld the flapper door shut and use an external wastegate, you'll just need a manifold that has a mount for it, or fab one for the manifold you have. |

I'm sorry that I may be asking so many stupid questions, but is there any problems with mounting a Starion Intercooler on a 93 Civic coupe? Should I just go with a SMIC?

And yes, you are asking stupid questions. |
Re: Volvo TDO5-12b Turbo (Can She Bolt on a Standard HF with Adapter Plate)
Before you insult someone get your facts straight, right here on this site in "Turbo Projects", an orange EG has a Starion Front Mount. However, the intercooler would hang to low on the factory civic and it would have to be hid by some after market front bumper. Ill just go side mount for now, until I get some more grip and get a fmic.
FYI: Modesty makes people know you know what your talking about. Why throw insults for no reason, automotive culture was born on guys maturely talking cars. The people who got cred, were not the ones throwing the insults, those were the people who wanted to be like them. |

You could cut the upper bumper support to make room.

And klyph, just chill man, I was asking what problems there would be in mounting the intercooler, I didnt want to guess. When I drop cash I like making sure its going somewhere good. Who are you anyway and what makes ur input matter? But dont waste ur time answering that question

Re: Volvo TDO5-12b Turbo (Can She Bolt on a Standard HF with Adapter Plate)
The volvo turbo that I have is still on its manifold. I see what some people were discussing on some other posts, the bolts to get off the turbo are hard as hell to come out. One of the heads of my bolts are horribly damaged and I can't even grip it with channel lock pliers. Can I just grind or cut the head of the bolts off or does the stupid manifold have threads in it too?

Re: Volvo TDO5-12b Turbo (Can She Bolt on a Standard HF with Adapter Plate)
Jeebus, what's your next post gonna be?
"Can someone from this site come to my house and do this for me?" Just do what you gotta do to make it work man, this thread is getting more and more pathetic with every ridiculous question you ask. If you don't know how to remove a bolt with a rounded head, you're better of just chopping the exhaust housing off with a band saw and welding it straight to your new manifold. |
