volvo 900 turbo
(i think it was mid 80's, 84-86)...
anyone have info on these, i've searched google and i can't find any exact info on which one it might be... also what would u pay for it at a jy? would it be of any use on a d16? (i know im gonna get spanked for the newb-esk question) oh and why haven't i seen abaz on the resource in awhile? |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
Because the mighty resource god Steve Jones has banned me..:/
Plus I try to take care as many people here, and honda-tech I think a few different versions came in those years of the volvo turbo, "would it work for a d16?" yes "also what would u pay for it at a jy? " Depends, whats a good turbo worth to you? 20 bucks? 100 bucks? 300? Everyone has their own ideas on what their worth, anything under 100 would be pretty good IMO. Jeff |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
why were u banned...
im wondering what its expected worth would be... and what would be the max boost do you think i could possibly get out of one? im looking for a decent 7lb setup while stock engine, for my car... i've been wanting to do a ghettodyne ecucontrol jy turbo kit for awhile.... cuzz as i look at it i want to be differn't and everyone has a b16 swap / b18 and im thinking it would be fun to do this myself, and i'll learn a good deal while i do it. i know im getting a copy of "maximum boost" and abaz if you could gear a tranny out any way you wanted... how would u gear it for boost? |

Like I said they came with a few different models, (different A/R's) either one could make more boost than your d16 could even handle ;) abaz if you could gear a tranny out any way you wanted... how would u gear it for boost? The shorter the better... So like a ZC Trans with a SI final would be nice for D-series, or a J1/B16a trans would be good for B-series |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
do you have aim...
i would really like to talk to you in real time i can understand you wouldn't want to give it out, because every newb would ask you a billion questions daily, and that would get old... but i have a gift that you might like... just a nice table i made a few days ago... |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
a table?
that you made? how nice. :P |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
actually its a table of all d-series gear ratio's
for mix and matching them... and i worked w/ the the old honda-perf calc so that i can mix and match gears out of all the differn't trannys.... aww sarcasim, but i think its a helpful tool... im working w/ a 6speed tranny thou so i need to swap out my gears and everything... i heard that i would need longer gears if i went boosted, and tighter gears for n/a... |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
Hey we love gifts :)
and I would be sure to help you out with your needs, I try to help everyone out the best I can around here, sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming with all the emails/IM's and all the boards I hit up all the time.. JEff |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
I think you mean SAAB 900 or Volvo 240 or 740. Eather way they are usually .42A/R compressor and .48A/R exhaust, some of the Volvo units have a .63A/R exhaust, good to about 15 to 20 PSI of boost, nice turbo, made by Garrett, everyone calls them T3s but they are realy TBO series.
|
Re:volvo 900 turbo
Those Volvo's have those gay ass inlet T3 patterns. But the holes are still pretty much in the same spot as a T3. I'm doing a kit right now with a .42/.48 Volvo Turbo, with a Chrysler M10 center section.

Re:volvo 900 turbo
im using a d16a1 w/ 6sp wagon tranny
machined to mate together.... and bolted in to my 88 crx... w/ some fabrication. the wagon is geared like this thou.... (SL = super low) SL 1 3 5 2 4 R im either gonna do this SL 2 4 5 1 3 R or 1 SL 3 5 2 4 R depending on stuff since i know nothing of building trannys i do beleave that i should be able to rearrange the gears thou, as long as i don't mess w/ R... im thinking of SL-wagon - unknown yet 1st -crx si 1st - 3.250 2nd -1g teg/zc 2nd - 1.944 3rd -crx hf 2nd - 1.650 4th -1g teg/zc 3rd - 1.347 5th -crx hf 5th - .694 final - crx si final - 4.250 #1 im not sure about rearrangeing gear order so that i could change the shift pattern #2 not sure about how close the gears go till you can have a too tightly geared tranny #3 for boost i thought i would have to gear differntly anything you would do differntly than n/a oh i chose hf 5th for highway, so i wouldn't have to die of high rpm's... oh i sourced a place to get a cheap 14b turbo for 50$ instead and the trannys to donate gears for like 20$ a piece... which do you think i would be better off with the volvo or the 14b, including the fact that i might want to update boost down the line... but then again i guess i could just make a new adapter plate later for a bigger turbo... hmm not sure. and from what i gather from you jeff i need to stick with lower / shorter / tighter gearing... im guessing those 3 words all mean the same thing... |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
Either turbo will work fine, t3 or the 14b, I would say go T3, because I dont like 14b wastegate actuators.
|
Re:volvo 900 turbo
whats the difference in waste gate actuators between the two...?
say i left the gears the same way in the 6sp but swapped out gears from other cars that fit... what do u think of my gear ratios that i plan to use? are they too close? or should i start another post in hope of some tranny expert on here possibly hiding? |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
I'm not a tranny expert so I cant really help you out..
The 14b wastegate actuator is huge, it hits the front cross member on most HF/STD setups on 4g civics, the thing lags like a mother fucker using it. It opens to fast, so boost takes awhile to hit. Every T3 actuator I have ever used has always worked fine. Jeff |
Re:volvo 900 turbo
thanks, i think i'll go t3 then...
right now im short on funds anyhow i need to sale my vespa to cover other things, but luckily my friend is getting a great job soon, so he can pay me the rest of what he owes me (1k) and i can either sit on that and eat... or maybe work on the crx.... right now im trying to plan everything out and cost evaluate everything.... staying busy and keeping my mind off of reality is the only thing that keeps me going.... |
