VNT turbo on an old Mercedes diesel

1 Attachment(s)
I have upgraded the stock KKK K26 turbo on my 3.0L Mercedes Diesel. The turbo is a Garrett GT2256V VNT from a 2003 Dodge sprinter.
I have almost 1psi of manifold pressure at idle and I reach my full boost pressure of 13psi by 2000rpm.

My method of vane control is currently a secret. :-X

I don't have any questions, just wanted to share my project.

Erm, this is confusing.

First, thats a TINY exhaust turbine. With VNT I wouldn't say much, but its also on a 3.0L, as well as a diesel motor. Put any hybrid turbo with an undersized exhaust and oversized compressor on a motor that's designed for insta-torque, and you get instant boost. I also don't know why you're 'hiding' your vane control method. The actuator is clearly in the picture, and VNT designs with it in that place don't have wastegates, as they usually use the vanes to modulate boost. If you read up on VNT's in the Turbo2 chrysler cars, the old or neglected engines would blow when exhaust ---- jammed the vanes and let it overboost, at least until their shity ecu's pulled their 13psi shutdown crap.

ANYways, cool setup, it must be fun to sip fuel but have instant power. With my understanding of diesels, if you have boost while idling, you should get amazing gas milage in the city.

looks pretty cool, what does it run ?? you ever think about intercooling it

Jesus that thing sounds like 18 wheels and a dozen roses.

I'm still in the process of tuning it so I have not done a timed 0-60 yet. I have no doubt it's faster, the turbo's response time is phenomenal.

Intercooling is surely in the future. I want to dyno it without one first just to see how much the faster boost rise and larger A/R turbine affects the powerband vs a traditional wastegated turbo. Right now it's 0*F outside so I probably won't be able to get an accurate dyno session for another month.

I'm making some more videos soon. I'll post them when I'm done.

let me guess you exchanged the actuador so that the vanes could be controlled by boost instead of vacuum
