vitaras help

ok im planing to build my z6. now do these vitaras fit right in or do they require some boreing? and how do they handle soo much boost. just cause theyr low comp? what about the p07's? how much boost will they handle?

Re: vitaras help

do the std ones fit right in? or will i need oversized and bore out the block? and ive heard that they make alot of noise. whats that ----?

Re: vitaras help

vitaras have been discussed more than the OJ trail.
search/read up already..

vitaras are better for boost than p07's
but you should go oversized, otherwise you will have piston slap.

i wish my civic had slap, so i could tell people its deisel

Re: vitaras help

some forged pistons are noisy when theyre cold as well.
the "piston slap" that you are referring to goes away after the car has been warmed up.
any turboed car should be warmed up and properly before running hard and should be considered a normal procedure.
this is vital for both the motor and the turbo on their longevity.
therefore this "deisel" sound goes away after normal warmup procedure.

aite. and if my sleeves arent in good condition then should i go with 76mm ones?

Re: vitaras help

if you need to bore out more, then go oversized.

they only have .040 over vitaras. So unless you wanna make your sleeves paper thin you pretty much have to go with STD bore

Yup.

So unless your cylinders are mint and don't require a bore, you shouldn't use them.

I was under the assumption that vitara's were still cast pistons and the lower c/r and lower ringland height was what help them stay in one piece? ???

Re: vitaras help

They are a cast piston with a heat resistant teflon coating apparently, also, ever hear a Vitara engine? piston slap like no tomorrow, what youre hearing is the free floating pin design, there is always going to be some noise caused by this, use thicker oil and it should muffle it down a bit, but nothing too noticable.

My Grandfather,Father and I have always live by the rule "Break them in how your going to drive them" We have built multiple motors many which have gone in a car and the first time they fired up was at the track. Were had one with 6 miles on it make a 9sec pass with 6 miles on the motor. And never one problem.

Re: vitaras help

if you are talking about the "hard break-in" I have done it. Did it w/ my brother's GSR motor.

Drive it up to red... and let her back down engine braking all the way... repeat a couple times... change oil. That the one you talking about?

Xgenturbo 12-07-2006 12:44 AM

Re: vitaras help

I'd usually let the car warm up, then take it for a few rips throught the RPM range to seat the rings, I did this with my B16 the first time I had it on the road and now I have it apart in my basement and the cyl wals are perfect, the pistons have no blow by markings and everything was seated really well.
