Vitara Sidekick pistons
Does anyone know if the sidekick and the vitara pistons are the same? The sidekick has 95 horse and its a 1.6 and the vitara has 97 horse and its a 1.6. I know this doesnt mean anything but I thought maybe they were the same. Cheap sidekick pistons are all over the place, vitara pistons are hard to find.

Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
fjt on honda-tech will sell you a set of vitaras with rings, wristpins, and locks for $138 overnight
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
how much can the vitaras handle. i didnt think they were forged.
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
some people are pushing them to 22psi. but thats tuned well.

I rode in a car with a z6 with vitaras/eagle rods (iirc) running 15 psi on a 16g-ish turbo... ran nice :) |

Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
Im running them @ 15psi on a t3 .60/.63 on a milled A6 and they take it better than my girlfriend lol
I went through a set of rings extremely fast though, starting to burn some oil Great pistons for the pirce, I'll be grbbing another set when these toast themselves |
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
check my sig...
ive seen 2 setups on honda-tech that are over 300whp. Both at 20-27psi. Your goddamn right they love boost. The best thing about them is that their cheap as ----. If i ---- a ringland, i have a spare block in my shed and a set of vitaras on my doorstep the next day for $120. Then ill have three spares ;D Still hasnt happened yet though |
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
323whp @ 17-18psi
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
i stand corrected. Beauitful... i cant wait to get my liscense back to get my slut to the dyno.
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
do they require any machining to match either eagle or tt rods? this sounds like something i might get into. especially if theyre cheap. 15 psi whould be perfect.
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
never mind. i did some research and found out that they dont require modifying. they have a floating style wrist pin.
ive heard that you can use either the honda or the suzuki ringlands. but not sure which would be better. |
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
Suzuki pistons have suzuki ringlands, its the little grooves in the pistons where the rings sit.. If you buy from 'FJT' on hondatech his vitaras come with Hastings rings.
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
sounds good. I remember seing someone made 346 give or take a couple hp. I think there should be HMT vitara shootout for those who aint scurred.
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
we have a guy here in boise, he has vitaras/eagles 57trim running 11.9 in 1/4mile, not sure about the whp.
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
I am curently in the middle of a vitara build too. with tt rods. looking to push safely like 300whp. I don't really see a problem with hiting that power on a daily basis. and the vitara's are a hyperutetic pistion. ask a v8 guy if you haven't heard of them before. bascily a setup below a forged piston and yes they will take A LOT OF ABUSE!

im easily over 350hp on these pistons. i have a bit more street tuning and track tuning before i hit the dyno...i want to hit 11.7's and then go to the dyno to see what kinda power it took to get my heavy pig to run the number...kinda reverse thinking when it comes to the dyno but i thought it would be interesting at least... i ran 11.98 @ 118 in my sohc, y8 block, z6 head, all stock execpt for eagle rods and vitara pistons. 57trim t3/t4 @ 23psi. all in a full weight civic 4dr on 22x8x15 slicks. :6 |
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
Very nice fellow Idaho neighbor!
I'll be hitting the track this friday so we'll see what kind of times i can muster. |
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
good lord cant imagine what kinda times an HF would bang out with that setup

fast2camciv- what kinda timing are you running at 23psi? on the high cam at the high rpms and in the last column (22.9) i think mine is at 16* or so. I saw some people running some crazy numbers with the vitaras. |
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
how low does it make compression on a D motor though?
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
there's a compression calculator link around here somewhere.
I almost used vitara's in my current z6 build. But something in me wanted to buy Wiseco..hehe |

Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
this is the compression calculator that i allways use...
http://www.knology.net/~jediklc/dcalc.htm according to that....my y8 block, z6 head, y8 2 layer head gasket, vitara pistons, yields a compression ratio of 9.18:1

Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
$138 shipped? Just think, for only $300 more you could have had some good pistons. ;) If the stock d-series pistons were low compression like the vitaras I'm sure they would handle that kinda power too (300whp has been done on stock Z6 motors before by the way). ---- 250whp seems to be the norm on stock d-series motors these days, my car is ----- compared to what some people are pushing d-series motors to.
|
Re: Vitara Sidekick pistons
this is HMT. and i say if people wanna run a cheap setup let them. ringlands are thicker than a stock piston. they are stronger than stock. and people are doing 350hp plus on these. and i only paid 125$ shipped. beerbong when ever theres a vitara post on any site. your there to knock them. why the hate? not trying to be a dick. just wondering maybe you had a bad expierence.

im sure 405whp can make a believer out of you yet lol!! completely stock motor minus a used set of eagle rods, and vitaras. these things can hang with the big dogs and this is proof. |
