Default valve cover breather + oil

So I have this thing venting to atmosphere and a catch can hooked up properly to the pcv system. I'm getting some smoke under boost from the exhaust and i'm not sure if it's the turbo or blow by.

Is there supposed to be oil comming out of the valve cover breather? There isn't much, but it's there! I'm hoping it's not a sign of blow by, I just rebuilt this thing last summer.

Help!

okay.

it would take pressure in the upper part of the head to push oil out of your breather. that usually means blowby. do a compression test.

if you take your oil cap of while idling can you feel it pushing air at your hand?

a little blow by under boost is 'normal' if you don't have a properly vented crank case, but he said he has his crank case vented properly, so he really shouldn't be getting blow by.

the air that comes out isn't only air...it builds up and will form a thin film of oil. This is normal. I run a hose off my valve cover to the ground instead of one of those filter breather things.

the only reason you want to vent the crankcase is to evacuate excessive gas pressure (caused by blow by)
