V8 - I4
so a friend of mine and i got into it today about performance engines. I like V8s and i like performance I4s too. I just like performance. We got to talking about numbers and he said it would take $4000 - $5000 to make 350 hp in a stock civic. I said BS, but he wouldn't believe me. I intend to link him to this thread, so honestly, how much would it cost to make a stock civic produce 350 hp, home made turbo style ?

Re: V8 - I4
I'm hoping to make an informal 'build sheet' listing what would be needed and estimated costs. He kept saying "oh, no way. I haven't seen it, and it takes atleast $4000 to turbo my saturn and blah blah blah" ugh. He wouldn't really listen to anything I was saying. He kept saying the same stuff over and over again and the changing the subject.

Re: V8 - I4
A gsr motor and all the bullshit, 1400 bucks with transmission and mounts? 250 for clutch. 220 for a good sized turbo, 400 for injectors, 340 to chip the ecu and get a wideband, 20 for hm oil lines, 250 for a manifold if he has to buy one, 100 for charge pipes, 45 for a boost gauge, 160 for a downpipe and exaust, 100 for an intercooler, 20 in couplers. 220 for a wastegate. I don't think it would be very hard to spend 4000 dollars on 350hp. 3000 is reasonable budgeting it.

not that you couldnt get 350 whp out of a "civic" for under 4-5,000, but you would need to spend that much to get 350 whp out of a built sohc motor, and 350 whp out of a stock sohc motor will last for maybe 20 seconds, with a dohc motor you can make 350 hp on the stock bottom end, but it still wont be reliable, a civic with a reliable 350 whp is gonna take a dohc motor swap, a built motor, a decent turbo set up, good tuned managment, and is probably gonna cost at least $4-5,000 to set up, if not more....
