using no dump valve will blow your car ?
hey, iam using an IHI turbo with an internal wastegate , and i love the noise it makes, ive got a dump valve too, but i was about to remove it , when my friend said that if i dont have a dump vavle or a recirculating dump vavle on my engine my turbo will blow ... is that true, do i have to run a dump valve ?? |
Re: using no dump valve will blow your car ?
Dump valve ??? Does he mean blow off valve? If so you dont nessacarily have to run one for low boost, but it will prolong the life you engine in the long run. If you already have one on why would you take it off?

I would listen to your friend. You don't necessarily need a bov if your running low boost but its always a good idea. If you have one on already then I'd say just keep it on! ;)

BOV sounds cool... makes your turbo last longer.... it's not necessary but then again neither are condoms. Your choice ;) |
Re: using no dump valve will blow your car ?
jesus, run the valve !
if you dont run a blow off valve your turbo wont last long this is what happens: when you are boosting there is pressurised air in the pipes on its way to the throttle body, when you change gear and hence shut the throttle plate that compressed air has nowhere to go except back out through the compresser wheel on the turbo pushing it against the way it is surpossed to spool. the compreeos is running on a bush or bearing that is desighned to take load on one side, if it takes load on the wrong way evry time you change gear you are going to ---- it. ok theres the really bad stuff. but also obviously when the air is pushed back through it obviously slows the spooling down real quick whick means when you open throttle again it has to fully spool up again to max boost so you lose alot of power and speed also. |
