Using internal AND external wastegate?
I have a deltagate wastegate, and I took it all apart and cleaned it out last night but Ive read that a lot of people have problems with boost spikes when useing it. I was wondering, if the turbo is internally wastegated, if I make my manifold to support an external wastegate like the Deltagate, could I use both? I thinking is that if the external WG spikes, the internal one on the turbo should vent that spike assuming both are set to the same PSI.
Is this logical or have other people done this? Thanks. |
Re:Using internal AND external wastegate?
with turbo, to my knowledge, you can have one or the other. you cant use both because the internal wastegate is set by an actuator arm on the compressor side. with external, it bleeds off the excess pressure after you reach a set psi amount.

Ah thanks for clarifing that :)

one or the other. If you tried to use both i'm sure you would have some crazy problems, I wont get into that though. If you want accuracy, use the external. Simplicity, use the internal.

Re:Using internal AND external wastegate?
if you calibrated them to open at 10psi why not?

Re:Using internal AND external wastegate?
shortyz is right...technically, it could work...but there is no need

Re:Using internal AND external wastegate?
Sure you could calibrate them together, but what happens when the internal gate spikes while the external gate is open? Two different readings.... what is the point ::)

Re:Using internal AND external wastegate?
there is no point its useless, but the internal gate wont spike because both gates would be partially open...more than enough flow to keep from spiking

Re:Using internal AND external wastegate?
i see a point to two wastegates. go up to a ricer, and say, "your turboed car isnt fast unless you got dual wastegates" i know its not entirely ethical, but its sometimes fun to ------ misinformation to the ignorant.

i like the way you think
