Default using header flange to clear block

one of my friends just gave me this idea- to use a header flange to make it easier to clear the block using the hf manifold.


that way it would space it out further away from the manifold where i wouldn't have to clock the turbo to clear the wastegate. all i'd have to do is get new exhaust manifold studs spaced longer than the original ones. anybody see any problems i'm gonna run into doing this?

You would need longer studs but thats not a big deal. I thought of this with my first set up. I just built a manifold though. The only issue would be the weight on the longer studs but I dont think it will be of much concern.

notching the block scurrz me...
i just don't know how far i can go b4 i strike oil (and not the kind where u end up getting rich :P)

but yeah if i use hardened studs and a locknut i shouldn't have any problems... i'm hoping to be able to mount it with the compressor on the tranny side, it'd make the smic piping a lot cleaner.
