Update - got dyno tuned again

1994 Honda Civic D16Z6. Below is a list of my mods. The block is stock.

1. Mild ported head - done by me
2. BBK 62mm throttle body
3. Zex 59300 cam shaft
4. Garrett T3 turbo from 740 Volvo - rebuilt by me
5. Honda Civic CX manifold welded to turbo flange
6. DSM 450cc injectors
7. Resistor pack
8. DSM side mount intercooler
9. DSM BOV - crushed top
10. Hydrolic 300psi rubber hose oil feed line
11. Bosal Brospeed 21/4 inch cat-back
12. Catco free flow catalytic converter
13. Down pipe is 21/4 inch
14. Apexi VAFC fuel computer

I installed the turbo about a month ago. I got it dynoed and the best result was 191WHP and 172FTP Torque 8). No turbo lag. The turbo spools quickly and pulls hard to redline. When the turbo is spooling it sound like a turbo trailer but a bit louder ;D.

I plan to remove the catalytic converter and the resonator soon. I will be switching to a front mount IC and a 3 inch down-pipe also. Hopefully, I will be able to bump the WHP to 200 and Torque to 180 ;). I will post pictures as soon as I take some and figure out how to do it.

Sounds like a nice setup. How do you like the dsm bov? and where are the pics? 8)

The BOV is sweet. It has a nice swooosh sound. I had to crush the top because it wasn't holding the boost. It would release pressure at very low boost before I even change gear or backoff the gas. I will take some pictures tomorrow (Saturday) and post them.

!80 WHP, sounds very very nice, espicially for a CX mani, with 2 1/4 DP, lol, it's hard to believe actually, how much boost are you running and what are you using for fuel management? that zex cam shaft most add alot eh?

Re:My setup and result - suggestions welcome

hmm that's weird....I've heard dsm bov's are good uncrushed till about 15 psi. Oh by the way did you use the stock injector seals for the 450's. Gonna be using the same injectors and i think I heard i don't need napa seals for the z6.Thanks

Spenser, it is actually 191WHP ;) I am not sure how much boost I am running. I have a boost guage and at one time it showed me 10psi. It's an auto meter guage...paid $28 from Summit Racing. I honsetly don't think it is accurate. I am using an Apexi VAFC meter to control fuel.

I used the stock injector seal. You will have to use a dremel tool and gently widen the seal. Just remove a little at a time and test fit an injector. You want a nice close fit.

no you dont need napa injector seals i set my 450cc. on the and found out before going to work that you can put the stock ones back in there after the modify,

I finally got to post some pictures. I will be removing the cat and resonator and replace them with a straight pipe. I will be upgrading the turbo to a Garrett A.R 60/48. With some tuning I hope to reach about 200WHP and 190+ FT-LB torque to the wheels ;D

It's the angle the picture was taken from. This down pipe came off a Saab. If you've seen one on a Saab you'll know it is not a harsh bend.

Did your injector clips snap right on without and modification to the clip? Cuz I have the same engine in my crx with the z6 clips and I couldn't get them on when I tested them.

that doesn't look like a Cx/hf manifold? ???

actually i think thats a vx manifold that has been choped off and welded a t3 flange, thats a smart idea. i did the same thing long time ago.

You have to notch out the tab on the z6 clips for them to fit. A small chisel or dremel would work.

Inside the top of each DSM injector is a little plastic ridge that you have to cut out. Just us a thin blade knife. Once the ridge is removed the clip will snap on with ease.

It came off a 1996 Civic CX. This manifold came with the catalytic converter attached to it. All i did was cut off the cat and weld a T3 flange to it.

On a few occasions the boost guage shows 10 PSI then it would go down to 8 psi. I am not sure it's accurate.

Re:Update - got car dynoed again

Recently I changed my turbo to a super60 A/R .48/.60, and installed a Jonnyracecar 5" intercooler. Everything else remains the same. Below is an image of the dyno result...221.6WHP and 202.8FT LB Torque. The boost guage was showing 15PSI.

http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/2474GsGLh/120128.jpg

On the third run the check engine light came on. As a matter of fact, it came on everytime we made another run. The boost guage was showing 15PSI. I tried reducing the boost with my TurboXS manual boost controller and nothing changed. Even when I turned the adjustment screw until it is fully closed, the boost guage still show 15PSI. When I disconnected it, the boost dropped to 5PSI (actuator arm setting). Because the check engine light was coming on with each run, we had to abandon the tuning. When the check engine light came on, from about 4500RPM and higher the graph was worst than a f**king roller coaster. Several adjustments to the air/fuel ratio were made after the second run but I was unable to see the result. Based on the error code (3) I know it is the MAP. After sorting out this issue, I will be going back.

Just wanted to share my result.

Still running the stock block?

wow, that looks really good for the setup you have; I think you need to get that boost setting under control and maybe think about a more tune-a-ble form of engine management.

I am thinking about using something like a check value(s) to hide the boost from the MAP sensor or an electronic boost controller to reduce the boost to about 10-12psi. I am also thinking about using UBERDATA. I have a spare P28 computer. I just need someone who is very knowledgeable about the programs to set it up for me.

Whenever the light comes on, the computer goes into "limp mode." In this situation, the computer will try to save the motor and in doing so, it reduces the timing and dumps more fuel into the system. It dumps more fuel to prevent the car from running lean. I have already reduced the ignition timing from 16 degrees to 8 degrees. Just image the performance when the computer starts to take away more timing.

I hope my analysis is correct.

robs99si 09-26-2004 12:53 PM

Re:Update - got dyno tuned again

i think limp mode is whenyou can't rev your car past 3000rpm. you get rid of limp mode by resetting your ecu, disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 20 seconds and then reconnecting it.

Defintely go with uberdata. My map should get you running pretty decent and give you something to tune from (check the uberdata site for more info). I would think at 15 psi you would make at least 250+ whp though with your setup, I made 230whp/208wtq @ 12 psi with the basically the same turbo (t3 60 trim .60/.48). How do you like that zex cam compared to the stock cam? I am thinking about getting one of those.

Beerbongskickass,I was just hoping for figures like you.

After the second run several adjustments to the air/fuel ratio were made but we could not get another run completed without the check engine light coming one. As soon as the light comes on, the computer showing the performance went out of control. The graph was like a roller coaster ride from about 4500rpm up. I know I should get more HP so it looks promising. The tuners told me to fix the check engine light issue and come back. I am thinking about getting a missing link. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

The 59300 ZEX cam is awsome. Big difference over stock. I am definately think about UBERDATA. I am going to read the information posted to understand how the program works.

You're definitely running into a map sensor issue. Normally the stock 1 bar sensor is only good to around 11-12psi. Go with Uberdata and you'll be happy, just run Pat's bin til you can get it tuned.

Re:Update - got dyno tuned again

Could someone please tell me where I can get a "missing link" for a reasonable price? I found a place name Inline Four but they want $58.00 for the missing link, and about $13.20 to ship by UPS, three days delivery. I think this shipping cost sucks.

Any information/help will be greatly appreciated.
