Anybody familiar with these older turbonetics models?

busa4 10-05-2011 10:22 AM

that is a massive turbo. what are you using it on?

Pulse 10-05-2011 07:10 PM

Just for educational purposes, does the size of the turbo suggest it was used for a diesel???

john0270 10-05-2011 10:25 PM

yeah kinda, no wastage, v band clamp connection, huge turbine housing, and it looks like it would come from an 600+cubic inch motor.... something that would be putting well over 1000ftlbs of torque anyway.

I have almost no real knowledge of turbos, just looks like some units I have seen on tractors ect....

Word... I was always into the bigg'ns... I'm thinking the guts aren't Turbonetics, due to the ribbed backing of the cool-side... I'm under the impression that Turbonetics always had anodized casings... Any knowledge of rebuild kits for these?

It's enroute, so I'll get the gist of how large it is when I get hands on it... Interested to see how it will work on the 1200cc bandit... Are there aftermarket integral wastegates for these older turbonetics snails?

bandit??? as in a suzuki bandit?

if so, that turbo is way to big. a good turbo to use is a k03 turbo out of an audi/vw 1.8t. they sell them on ebay new for ~400.00

ive used them on numerous turbo bike builds.

If that's comprable to the Garret GT17 platform, it's not what I'm after (too small)... Ideally I'd love to get my hands on something within the boundaries of a GT28-GT35 range...

thats about right. the k03 spooled up on a gsxr 600 at 6000 rpm. a gt28/gt35 may never spool up or if it does it will be in the surge limit portion of the turbo map. use a turbo calculator and plot in on a turbo map to see what the best turbo is for you. the largest turbo i have ever put on a bike was a t25 and i installed it on a gsxr 1000. it spooled at 8000 rpm. these are all t2 turbos. t3 or t4 turbos may never spool. i know theres a hayabusa kit that uses a 16g turbo. is this bandit carb'd?

Yep, carb'd... It's going to be a blow through set-up... I've got a guy in Finland helping me out on the build, and he stresses these bigger turbos... Less stress on the engine, pulls nice midrange, no top end bottle-necking... I'll toss you a linky to verify his expertise, just don't crap yourself when you see his most recent build (I clinch each time)...

I will... I'm still not quite sure if I'm going to put this turbo on the bandit, as I haven't seen it yet... It's in the mail, and should be here within the next few days... I was just wondering if anyone knew the specifics from a picture...? Guess I'll just have to wait...

it not turbonetics but at least a real garrett , Its a TO4B and a PTrim Turbine wheel they make smaller THSG for it its just finding it actually you Turbonectics makes a smaller Thsg that will bolt up . basic T3/T4 kit will work , those are super common on tractors and generators
