turboing a car that has a MASS/MAF...??

i have some questions about the mass/maf whatever cars. is it a trick to turbo them like a Honda? cuz what im thinking is that the mass will just keep seeing more air enter the engine and it will keep giving it more fuel, right???

arent you supposed to put the maf sensor/flapper in front of the turbo inlet?

yeah...the turbo will suck the air threw the mass then compress it and sent it on its way...

Yeah your right but you have to make sure you recirculate your "blown off air" back to the turbo before the sensor. If you want to run bigger injectors you can drill a hole small hole after the maf sensor so that it is actually seeing less air than is actually getting into the engine, and since it thinks there is still stock injectors it gives less fuel, making the bigger injectors idle right. I know this isn't what you asked just thought i'd share.

or you could modify it to fit after intercooler before intake manifold and have atmosphere BOV if not you will most likely have to recirc the BOV

Well the thing with the bov is not when it vents but the fact that it is open and sucking air at vacume.that is what fucks it up(at least thats what the guy at the VW dealer told me). They make bovs that have 2 ports. One dumps into the atmesphere(you get that cool sound)and one to recirc(no cel).I was thinking about getting one of those for my Passat couse it has one of those cheesy Bosch ones thats stock.I hear those like to stick open :-\

if your gonna run maf put it directly in front of the TB. this way the BOV dump issues arent and issue. and is you get a inline resistor of potentiometer you can lie to it about how much Volatge is comming out. less vout = less Air which = less injector PW. ford guys have been doing that for years. the downfall is that typically the lower the load IE airflow the higher the timming advance.

its a tricky catch 22

I've seen people put the maf after the bov but alot of people say that it isn't good to have the maf under pressure (on the compressed side of the turbo.) I'm not sure exactly why it's not good but I think it messes something up.

i dont give a ---- about the BOV...

so turboing a NON-turbo.....Mazda lets say, shouldnt be that hard then?? you can throw bigger injectors in and a little MASS mods and maybe even a AFC.....and this should be about ready then right?

Re:turboing a car that has a MASS/MAF...??

I have two friends that turboed an engine using MAF.
One put the MAF before the turbo and the other put it after the turbo....both used a bov that vents to atmosphere. Both setup worked great.
One used a S-AFC to control his bigger injectors.
but I think putting the MAF after the turbo and teh bov between the maf and the turbo is best.....then you won't run really rich when stepping of gas. But either won't hurt your engine, cause you won't run lean when putting the maf before the turbo.
But Maf's have they're limits....sometimes you need to get a bigger MAF when boosting high numbers
