Turboing a 80's camaro V8

This buddy of mine has an NA camarao I think its an 89, fuel injected V8, 9.2:1 CR, he wants to do a single turbo, I recommended a T3/4, but I dont know too much about thoes cars, anyone know what would be a good setup for him, he's willing to spend around $1000 to do this. and the plan is to run 8-10 psi, the car has 2 injectors from what I hear, dunno how that works but what would he need to do for fuel management?

Any help would be great, thanks.

oh yeah, anyone selling a good T3 turbo? or know what kind of turbo would be best for his application?

First your going to need to know what you have, tpi or tbi, then you can start making plans. :P

T3 seems awfully small for a V8. I was told to use a T4 exhaust housing on my Volkswagen and it had a V6 in it, so I'd assume a V8 would do well with a fairly big T4.

it might be simpler to make the car back to carbueration and go from there....just an idea since its a sbc it would be easy to do

TPI, TBI? what does that mean?

also we just wanna slap a turbo on it that will spool quickly and make some decent power. the car runs low 15's we wanna knock that down to low 13's

Just tell me what turbo and how to do the management, I can pretty much figure the rest out.

TBI= Throttle Body Injection; A couple big injectors located before the intake plenum.

TPI= Tuned Port Injection; Each cylinder has its own injector locator in their respective intake runners. This is the higher horsepower setup of the 2.

fmus work well on those the TPI engine, and would be fine on that engine for 8 pounds

i own a 94z28 camaro as well as my crx. as for turboing he going to spend alot more then 1k. if he wants to do that he should just get the 88 trans am that came factory turbo. u can build kits for them. but t3/t4 way to small. good thing botu them cars parts are cheap as hell. for power he probnly lookin for can do fully build it n go 11s np lol. or do heads cam nitours n do same. is it rs or a z28

Ok its a TBI then, and he dosnt want to spend more than 1k, so thats why we plan a home made setup, I was thinking FMU as well.

I can chip either ECU and you can tune it for boost. Need to know the year, TPI or TBI and the broadcast code on the prom. www.thirdgen.org I taught the local GM performance place to chip those ECU's and how to work the program. www.tunercat.com I have the full version of tuner cat.
