Turboing a 1994 Jeep?

We are going to boost my friends Jeep... heres the info I pulled from the fucker:

1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4D 4x4
green w/ gray interior; keyless entry
pwr locks & windows; privacy glass
4.0 litre H.O. inline six, auto trans.
15" alloy wheels

mods:
- Rough Country 3" suspension lift w/ 8000 series shocks
- 31" Mastercraft C/T tires
- 2 1/4" cat-back exhaust w/ a glasspack muffler and Magnaflow tip
- K&N cone-style air filter ( custom fitted by me )
- cone filter style valvecover vent ( custom fitted by me )
- removed mud flaps ( makes it look higher and the mud splatters better )

Theres some room in the engine bay, definitely want to use an Intercooler and looking to add around 50 to 100 hp. Looking for any advice as far as turbo size goes, tunning, etc... this will be my first personal project and will done completely custom on the cheap.

Re: Turboing a 1994 Jeep?

People don't understand the FMU. It's extemely high-tech NASA alien technology ----. Those different ratio fmu's you can get aren't for increasing fuel pressure. That ratio is saying..I bet you 12 to 1 that you can wax past this fucker no matter whatever is next to you...be it a twin turbo Doge Viper or a Buick 6000LE driving by a 78 year old woman with only one good eye. You get a 8-1 FMU your odds aren't as great as that 12-1. Man people make ---- sooo complicated nowadays. rhb5 and a fmu. go back to your roots.

Re: Turboing a 1994 Jeep?

I'll call nigtec and see how we do... FMU seems to be the ultimate for poverty stricken negroids though
any other tips? junkyard or used turbo for sure, thinking a holset if I find one, 60/63 if we cant...
weld the turbo right to the manifold, or potentially buy a flange and make an adapter... still not sure
looking for cheap and sort of reliable, not fast

MS costs about as much as we intend to spend on the entire project. I am not going to spend a couple hundred dollars on EMS when I want 50-100 horses.

Hope you don't mind not having it tuned right for part throttle.. WOT tuning is possible, of course..

How does the stock tune not work for part throttle with an FMU? How do you tune correctly for fuel or ignition @ WOT with an FMU? Is it just me, or are you seriously intellectually defective?

ichbinsobose 01-30-2007 07:49 PM

Re: Turboing a 1994 Jeep?

an FMU is not a tune. It's a bandaid of sorts until the owner wins the lottery. :1

Those pics are from Bryson. That is the sadest excuse for a turbo kit. Yurri, if you are serious just make it like the 505 Jeep turbo kit. Up pipe to the passenger side. Sit the turbo up top. bang done. Up pipe and downpipe will cost you like $50 total.

Don't mean to thread jack but what kind of custom mount job would you need to do to put the 4.0L straight six in a TJ wrangler, I believe its a TJ, its a '99 with the shitty four-banger.

Re: Turboing a 1994 Jeep?

It will bolt in with factory mounts. That was an option for that year.

ichbinsobose 02-04-2007 04:00 PM

Re: Turboing a 1994 Jeep?

Heres some more ---- were throwing around... building an adjustable map sensor for the jeep for a few bucks and running bigger injectors, will ford ones plug?
Either fabbing an up pipe from the stock exhaust or hacking off the stock mani and re welding it upside down... retarded intake manifold gets in the way a little bit we haven't really had a chance to look and measure anything. Holset turbo almost certainly. Side pipe exit right past the engine bay. Whatever intercooler we find in the junkyard, just because its a little more cheap insurance over running without one. Not like the holset will have trouble pushing air.

no it wont. motor mounts need to be moved forward 4" to put a 4.0 where a 2.5 was
